I am close to finishing my first semester at my current 4 year state university and I was planning on doing the next semester there and then transferring as this school was not my school of choice as well as the financial aid offered was not satisfactory. However, I have missed the due date for counseling on a loan for next semester and I do not want to ask my parents for any more help for tuition next semester. Is it wise or acceptable to do a second semester at college and then trying to transfer to another 4 year university?
Can anyone provide some advice ?
Hi-- I think your post left out some words. Do you mean “is it wise to do my next semester at a community college and then transfer”?
Generally you’d be transferring to a CC and then transferring a second time to another 4-year college.
The accepted wisdom is that transfer students are not offered as favorable FA as incoming freshmen. But that’s in general. Your experience may vary.
I would advise –
- getting yourself your FA in line as best as you can at your current school. Beg, beg some more and then hopefully get the appt about your loans lined up. Be the gentle squeaking wheel. Hi! May I please get that appt for my aid. Over and over but not in a creepy stalkerish way. Just ask nicely every day until someone gives you that appt.
- Prep for transfer to 4-year institution of your dreams. That means keep your grades up and polish up those applications.
Best of luck
Alternately, transfer home to that CC and stay there until you have completed your full AA or AS degree, and then transfer.
