Thought it would be possible that someone here would have this or know where I can find.
The SAT was renormed in 1995. Prior to May 1995, the average scores in the few years prior to that were about 430 on Verbal (now known as Critical Reading) and about 480 on Math. The renorming (also known as recentering) returned the averages closer to the middle of the 200 to 800 range. In other words, someone who took the test in say November of 1994 and got a Verbal score of 430, and then took the test in November of 1995 and got a 500, actually scored at the same level. Their percentile (how they rank against their piers) was the same.

I took the SAT when the averages were below 500 and, yes I got an 800 on the Math at the time (I later earned a PH.D. in statistics). When I took the test, scores above 700 and even 750 on the verbal were so rare, that fewer than 30 people (out of over 1 million) would get a 1600 (800 on both sections). After recentering, nearly all people scoring 700 (the conversion tables show 730) would return an 800 on the recentered scale. The new test was so "easy" that in 1996, several hundred people got 1600, an increase by a factor of 25 at least, if I remember correctly.

I wonder if anyone can direct me to a place where I can get statistics on M+V distributions for graduating classes 1991 through 1987 above 1400? (Other than CB, I will call them if I have to, but we have a limited budget, and they're gonna charge an arm/leg I bet). By the way, we need M+V distributions for between 400 and 600, too....
