Doing terrible in science?

I have a 59% in science and it’s bringing my average down by a lot. I haven’t really discussed it with my family because I want to try to bring it to at least the high 60s low 70s before report card time. We’ve only done one unit, and it was electricity. I studied a bit but the notes we took were very limited and didn’t elaborate on concepts that were included on the test.
I failed it, bringing my mark to the 59% I have today. And by failing, I mean getting 45%.
In the upcoming units is it possible to raise my mark to mid 70s?
It’s really depressing me, and it’ll probably ruin the March break.

What class is this? Physical Science? Biology? AP Chem? AP Physics?

Double post sorry

General science Grade 9

No one can tell you if you can bring your grade up - every school uses different grading policies. Go talk to your teacher about this and ask them about bringing your grade up & fixing your study habits.

Seconding the talk to the teacher approach! They know best what it will take to get an A, a B, etc.

@Anish14‌ Seriously? No need to be a jerk. If you’re struggling, try to find alternate sources of the content you’re learning, and spend more time studying.

1° Go talk to the teacher. Ask which content area seems to be the matter, but most importantly what type of question you got wrong (ie., format, type of thinking…)
2° Ask for a tutor and work with him/her every day until your quizz grades are consistently C+ to B-. If it means you’ll stay after school for tutoring until the end of the school year, so be it.

@Fuffy24‌ What? What’s wrong with asking what class he’s having a difficult time with?

@Kawaiii He called the guy stupid for failing, it’s gone now.

Lmao I got a warning for it too so I apologize, OP

An important thing to do when you study is to read the chapter. Usually, it will have questions throughout the chapter that are answered. Write them down with the answers. Also, read and make sure you understand your notes. Notes usually contain the foundation of the unit, so its important that you comprehend them.
For any vocab, i suggest quizlet, or if you dont like using your computer or phone to study, make flashcards.

Read and reread the questions and answers you wrote down from the chapter. If your science book is like a workbook, make sure you can answer all the questions about the unit. For tests, look over old quizzes on the unit and answer the questions.

PS. If you know there are questions that may be open ended, or things your teacher says you should know how to explain, write down the question (e.g. Explain the lifecycle of a star) and the full answer. Highlight key words in your answer so you don’t have to memorize it (though I would read over the whole thing a few times.)

I used to be bad at Science too. I made a personalized study method, and now its one of my best averages

@Fuffy24‌ Oh, I see.

@Anish14‌ Would you have apologized if you hadn’t got a warning?

@yojojoba1987‌ Do you know why you’re failing? You should talk with the teacher to get help, or get a tutor. There are also great sites like Khan Academy and many people on YouTube that might have explained it better than your teacher has. Good luck.

Is everyone else doing bad? I agree that you should probably find alternate sources online to explain things. You might want to talk to other students for help if you need it. Try to imagine what kind of questions you might be tested on and study that along with everything else.

@Kawaiiii To be honest, no. Going off @17Angel‌, unless a lot of people are struggling, the class cannot be that tough. It’s a freshman science class and most of the people on this site (this includes OP- he cares enough…) are gifted in one way or another- this isn’t just some kid with no potential. Use videos all over the internet to your advantage and benefit.

Just stay positive and ask your teacher for help. I’m sure your teacher would be more than happy to help you.
