Hello,

I'm currently a freshman who is curious about how doable it'd be to do a year's worth of Chem in a summer. I want to take organic chem next year, but I'd have to wait until my junior year if I waited. I'm considering pre-med, which is why I'd prefer to tackle the requirements before my sophomore year. Do you think it'd be manageable? I'm stuck at an impasse right now. I feel like I could do it if I applied myself, but at the same time, it is a year's worth of material. Could this possible hinder me for MCATS as well?

Is it doable? Probably, though this depends on you and the course, so no one here will be able to give you a definitive answer.

Is it a good idea? In my opinion, no. It's one of the premed requirements, and taking it in the summer just so you can take organic chem next year isn't compelling to me. Plenty of people take physics and the MCAT as juniors. You taking organic as a junior certainly isn't unheard of.

Okay, my only concern is this: If I were to take Biology/Chemistry as a sophomore, and organic chem/physics as a junior, in addition to my other requirements, do you think it'd be possible for me to go to medical school right after college (if this was what i wanted to do)? If so, then I will just wait until next year for chem.

It's certainly possible, provided you get your MCAT in there somewhere.

Hmm, that's encouraging. I guess I'll just wait until next year. Thanks for the help.
