Calc 2 is supposedly the worst calc class at my college, and all my friends hated it. On the other hand, I took it and didnt struggle as much as everyone else and ended up with an A- without even trying that hard. Sometimes I struggle in math (I honestly never understood series after the entire semester) and sometimes I hate it it but in general I was always good at math in high school.
Looking at the big picture tho, I like the step-by-step process of getting to the right answer in all the lower level / high school math courses that I’ve taken but at the same time I think math is very boring. Im more into learning about humanities/social sciences. Should I be a math major? What are upper level math courses like? Are they similar to calculus?
Junior and senior level math courses will mostly emphasize theorem proving. You may have gotten a lower level taste of theorem proving in high school geometry.
Note that logical thinking as used in math may also be used in philosophy, a humanities subject. If you study the social sciences, a good understanding of statistics will be helpful (for economics, you may also find additional math to be helpful, particularly if you go on to PhD study).
Calculus 2 is nothing like the core foundational upper-divison math classes. There is no step-by-step process. You have to reason your way to proving something and there are multiple ways of proving something correct or incorrect. 3 of my upper-division math courses were spent proving calculus from the ground up.
Taking an intro to proofs course is probably your best bet in understanding if you can maybe handle a math major.
If you think math is very boring, find something else. It can get pretty dry if you don’t care enough about it. I’m not saying I was always super enthused about every math class I had to take, but I didn’t think any of them were that boring that I was falling asleep in them or anything like that.
“Calc 2 is supposedly the worst calc class at my college”
But presumably NOT the hardest math class by far, unless your college is very seriously lacking in mathematics.
“I like the step-by-step process of getting to the right answer”
This is pretty much logical thinking, and can be very useful in a wide range of majors: Math, philosophy, law, engineering, …
“but at the same time I think math is very boring.”
I think that this pretty much answers your question. There are a LOT of majors where logical thinking is important. If you think math is boring, you should look through the others.
