domain registration

hey all. im looking to register a new domain, but without all the usually-included package, just bare bones. where is the cheapest one i can find?

I've had no problem using GoDaddy.com. It's $9.20 total for one year.

DomainsAreFree.com is offering one for $3.99 a yr. and some claim it's a scam. i think one with email-forwarding feature would be great.

I think people tend to be suspicious because domain resellers are charged something like $6.25 automatically by ICANN per each domain registered (the rest is for managing nameservers, managing the website and control panel, and profit).

take a look at this:

one yr registration - $3.99
two yr - $12.98
three yr - $21.97

why is this so? i thought bulk purchases always result in less price per unit? i might as well register every year for three years and pay only $11.97. any other opinions?

http://www.godaddy.com is great. Great prices and service.

Because they're losing money on the first year, and making it back later. Make absolutely sure you read the contract and everything. They could have something like "We will bill your renewal for two additional a month after you've been with us" or something sneaky like that.
