Domestic or International?

I'm a Canadian but live in Shanghai. One university that I looked at had two applications for domestic(US and Canada) and international students. Which application should I use?

I think they go by your current country of residence. Best bet would be to check out the university’s website or see if the school has a fan page on facebook and ask your question there (I know Ni****ing does this).

One of the universities say: “If you’re not from Canada or US, use the International application.” I’m not sure if they go by passport nationality or where I currently live.

Pick up the telephone and call them.

Canada or US may refer to school systems that they understand well - in which case you would need to include supplementary forms that describe your foreign school in terms that the college/university can understand.

OR

Canada or US may refer to citizenship (passport) and have more to do with how they calculate financial aid.

OR

It may be something else entirely.

You won’t know what they mean until you ask them. Don’t be afraid to ask. They get this kind of question from students like you every single year.

I am fairly sure it refers to citizenship/residency status. For example my sister was born in India, but because she was a permanent resident of the United States she was considered a domestic student. So if you were born in Canada and don’t hold Chinese residency I would say you are domestic.
