Are there programs where studentsm instead of say spending a semester in another country, can take part in an exchange with a domestic university for a semester? For example someone going to an east coast school spend a semester somewhere on the west coast?

I know Columbia and NYU have them. In fact NYU has a whole Spring in New York program: NYU > Spring in NY . I don't know which West Coast schools have such programs, but I am sure that there are some out there.

Barnard College and Simmons College also have them but those programs are for females.

Yeah, many schools do have programs like that or internships that enable to you to be in a major city. Actually, my university has a partnership with a university in another major city only 1 hour away... Odd, but true.

Call up your study-abroad office. Definitely have an idea what sort of place/environment you want so they can check more easily.

Ask your school if they have field studies practicums or internships in another city (for example, Washington D.C. is a very popular college choice) where you can earn academic credit.

National Student Exchange - Links to Member Campuses

It's called National Student Exchange Program. The link above is one example.

Some universities let domestic students apply as visiting students for one or two semesters. I know Harvard and Smith do.

and Colgate.

Is your college part of the 12 College Exchange program in the Northeast?

I don't believe so but I could be completely wrong being that I am only an incoming freshman at Binghamton. Some of the programs posted seem enticing enough for me to pursue them futher, so I thank all of you for the help!

My college has a Washington D.C., New York, and LA programs.

I think my university allows us to do a program at American University in D.C.

american university is weird.
