Does anyone have any information or insight into Dominican U near Chicago? It was suggested to my daughter by her G.C. as a safety (her G.C. seems determined to get her to apply to at least ONE Catholic school) where she'd get good merit money - campus looks pretty but don't know much about it. (Their online merit calculator did say she'd automatically qualify for over $10,000 in merit money and their total cost is about $24,000.) Just curious if anyone knows anything about Dominican.

Dominican U used to be Rosary College, where my mom went to school. It began as a small Catholic women's college, but has been co-ed for decades. It is still run by the Dominican community, as progressive and intelligent a group of women you could ever hope to find. These women are completely devoted to helping everyone find their potential. The school has a great faculty--intersting people who you would like to talk to at length about their field of study. As a result, they have a fiercely loyal alumni group. I grew up in River Forest and spent a huge amount of time on the campus. All my babysitters were "Rosary" girls. Dominican has a big reputation in Library Science and as a result has a superb library.

The campus is gorgeous, the suburb of River Forest is safe, tree-lined, and beautiful. It is an easy walk to either the train or the "el" to go downtown and enjoy the great city of Chicago. O'Hare is a 15 minute ride away.

It is small, but perhaps that would be a plus. You might also consider DePaul--that is a downtown really fun school as is Marquette in Milwaukee. All three colleges have tremendous alumni support which really says a lot about the school. Good luck and try to visit.

Gin, Thank you so much. My daughter does want a small school so she's already ruled out DePaul and Marquette. Dominican looks very interesting so we will have to try to visit when we are in the area over spring break.
