I don’t think this is the right forum but I didn’t know where else to put it. I look the sat in March of 2018 and got a 1300 with a 720 subscore in math. I got 50 out of the 58 math questions right so each question took me down 10 points. Now I took it again in June and got a 1390 with a 750 in math but I only got TWO wrong. Meaning I got 56/58 correct but each question took me down 25 point. Can someone explain this and why this happened? Why on one test is each question work 10 points while on this one it was 25. I feel like going from 8 wrong to 2 wrong is a substantial improvement but I only got 30 extra points for it? Please explain someone.
Same with my daughter. She got an additional 13 questions correct on the June R/W and only improved her score in that section by 10 points. She got 52/58 questions correct in math for a 670 (which would have been 720 + in May).
I think they curve the scores according to the difficulty of the test. Several students have commented that the June test seemed easier than the May.
Congrats on your improved score though!
In the same boat here. DD’s math score didn’t change AT ALL despite answering seven more questions correctly than she did on the March test. She did say she thought June’s test was much easier, but the scores are going to be much lower than expected. There will definitely be many disappointed students waking up to scores today.
Same thing happened with my daughter. She got fewer answers wrong than in March and a slightly lower overall composite score. The issue is that they scale the raw scores so that there is standardization across tests. It appears the June test is easier. So indiethoughts is correct, there is going to be some disappointment today. Her March score was fairly high overall and very high in math–so we are still hopeful she will get into the college of choice with a merit scholarship that is enough to attend without breaking the bank. Still, she’s a bit bummed because she knew she did better and was hopeful for an even higher score.
I only missed 3 on the math and got a 720, missed 7 on the reading/writing and got a 710. On the April SAT I missed 10 reading/writing and got a 730. I was really hoping for more improvement than 30 points total.
