Donating to nonprofits on applications?

There are two organizations I'm thinking about that I've always liked and wanted to donate to. I want to raise in the very least 5,000 for each.
I'm going to be launching a business within the next few months and will likely be able to get a substantial of donations from there.

I hope this doesn't entirely cheapen the fact that I'm raising money, but would donating a couple thousand dollars to a few organizations look good on a college application? I'm not only doing it for college, they're both things I'm incredibly passionate about and would plan on doing anyway.

Unfortunately my EC's have been pretty weak as of yet, and it would be nice to know.

Thanks,
Don't spit on me please. :(

No, donating money of your own, while very nice, wouldn’t help with college apps, since it just shows that you have the money to donate (in the same way that expensive summer programs in general don’t help applicants, since it just shows they have the money to do them). However, raising the money definitely helps, since it shows leadership, initiative, drive, etc.
