Donations=Buying your way in

Most people tell me that if you make a GENEROUS donation, that you have a good chance of getting in. True or False?

Haha...Yeah. Colleges need as much money as they can get. Obviously, $100 isn't going to make a difference and will probably be taken badly. But if your parents donate like a building...it will help your chances tremendously, I think. I'm not sure, but it makes sense that the college would keep very good relations with your family. You'd still have to be in the running and not be completely unqualified to attend the school probably.

I don't know, but I was thinking of putting a couple of $5 dollar bills in my application.

children of parents who donate millions to a college are called a "development admit"

do you have to donate millions?!?!!? i thought the picture was more like thousands. were you being sarcastic? Im so confused. I need a cake. haha friedrice

Millions...

man that's lame. i am having a hard time as it is affording x-box

i know personally of a few cases of this, it is really upsetting two people, person A far more qualified than person B, but person B having loaded parents and seeing person B miraculously get in when person A is rejected. it sucks but nothing you can do about it, if a school is guaranteed a lot more than tuition over the course of alumnus relations, it makes sense to take that person

Thousands is just tuition, it definately has to be millions.

Yeah seriously, millions not thousands lol.

poor person A......but, i don't blame the colleges for accepting those people. ALthough there ARE people who are spoiled and dumb, and get into good colleges that just end up dropping out of the college because its too hard, I think there is a fairly legit reason to accept these people. IT has been proven that 95% of children will stay in the same class as their parents or rise a little above their parents, and if their parents are high middle class or in the high class, then its 95% that these kids will be in the same class also when they grow up. Looks good for the colleges right? Having their College Plate on the liscense plate of a BMW or a Lexus for generations.

p.s i don't have millions of dollars, so it's not like im supporting myself or anything :] i wish i did though

Places like Harvard won't even take you if you donate that much. They have a nearly $40billion endowment. They make $20 million a DAY off interest. They don't need it. If you donate like $10+ million I am sure you will have a chance, but honestly, it would be a waste.

places like harvard....of course.

The people who donate 10 million+ are crazy. Just investing that in state 30 year municipal bonds at 6% interest gives you an untaxed income of $600,000 a year. And even investing 3% back each year to cover inflation gives you an equivalent untaxed income of $300,000 a year now for the rest of your life. So...you can go to harvard or watch the sunset from your beach villa in Cabo. Tough call I know.

If you have 10 million dollars to donate I doubt you lack a beach villa in Cabo.

man thats so seriously lame. things like this make make me want to be a communist

If you are that rich, you really don't deserve (or need) to go to Harvard (or other top schools).

LOL let's start a revolution!!!

anyways, you should donate a few million dollars, and then when they accept u, ask for financial aid ;]

If someone wishes to buy his or her way into a college, they should certainly, at least, use the proper channels and forward their check to me.
I'll make sure the college receives it.
Make it out to "cash".

Yeah, lets change the US to a communist nation so all of our hard work in college will be pretty much useless!
