It's so boring, I live 35 mins away from school. On days that I have one class, I spend more time in my car then in class. I don't even do anything at school, went to a few frat parties but it kind of sucks commuting. Can't wait to transfer.

This is what happens when you don't do any research in college and apply to one school cause your parents reccommend it.

You might consider getting on-campus housing, such as an apartment or dorm. The school may have room or maybe you could get on the waiting list for a dorm. It may change your perception of the school you now attend.

i commute to school and its fine. i go to parties and everything, and i spend time in other peoples dorms. its not that bad, especially if you have to deal with it...

Well I wouldnt live in a dorm, when I'm 35 mins away from school. So if I did live in a dorm, I would make sure I was far away (different school). Just how I feel about it.

And plus gas is so expensive I don't really feel like going anywhere if frats call me up, its an hour drive around trip to my school and back home.

Most students at my school commute. I don't mind driving 20 miles one-way. Yes, I do spend $30-$40/week in gas but I'd rather live in my apartment than live in a dorm on campus. I live farther away from campus than many of my classmates but since I don't have much of a social life (I spend most of my time doing my own thing) it doesn't bother me. I have a cousin who lives near me but decided to get an apartment near the campus. He has his own car so he does have transportation if he had to commute but I guess he'd rather live near the campus. Either way, his parents pay for everything in his life (his apartment, his BMW, the gas for his BMW, etc). I can't believe they pay for his gas. And he happens to be one of the most self-centered people I've ever met. Go figure.

How much are you saving by living at home versus living in the dorm? I am just curious. It would seem that the cost of auto, maintenance, fuel could have easily paid for dorm living but I am not judging your choice. If you decided to live at home and now are resistant to going back to campus for activities.....perhaps you can have a hang out place on campus and spend more time there, greater benefit socially for your single round trip daily.

Another ?? You would not live in a dorm but would you live in a Frat? Is there any difference of preference there? When is rush at your school?

A lot also depends on where you live I'd think. I live about 35-40 miles away from UCLA, and I'm going to live on campus, because in rush hour traffic it can be a 2 hour plus drive each direction.

Well the thing is, my parents and I just moved to this small town. All my friends are back in another state, going to different schools. I don't know anyone here.

I live about 35 miles away from UCLA and I commute 4 days per week. However, I have afternoon/night classes and am able to pretty much avoid all traffic (with exceptions of course for accidents and what not).

Despite having to fill my tank with Premium gas, I enjoy commuting. It gives me time to relax, interestingly. ;)

I also dormed but did not enjoy the experience due to lack of privacy and feeling "trapped". But, I think it really is all a matter of opinion of whether you should commute or dorm/apt...
