Don't feel challenged (yet?)...am I doing something wrong?

I'm a first semester freshman, and I feel like I have not needed to adjust to the demands of college at all. I am sleeping more than I did during high school, have roughly the same amount of work, and have been doing well on assignments up to this point. I've been doing all of the reading, and have been studying and making study guides for tests over a week in advance. If I've had no difficulty adjusting after a month of school, will my classes get harder? Will my big tests (e.g. midterms, finals) be killers in comparison to the reading or smaller assignments? I almost feel like I must be missing something or doing something wrong, but at the same time I purposely chose classes I would like and be good at, and the school I'm attending was basically a low-match admissions wise. I apologize if this sounds conceited or obnoxious, but as of now I'm not really feeling this hugely hyped difference between high school and college demands.

Tests are where they rape you. And freshman classes are basically high school classes in terms of difficulty. For me readings and homework are basically completed on autopilot.

It gets a little more challenging around midterms, and crazy busy at finals, when professors just dump a ton of work on you. If after the first semester, you still don’t feel challenged, try taking a more rigorous course load.

Add extracurriculars.

chances are your work load wont get exponential harder (maybe) I suggest simply taking full advantage of everything your school offers while you have the free time

My daughter’s situation is similar to yours. She is a freshman also. She told me that her classes are very easy so far. She even dropped her Calc 2 course and moved up to Calc 3 which is still not very challenging. So far, she said the quantity of homework is just a fraction of what she had when taking AP courses in high school. However, she has not taken any tests or exams yet. So time will tell how that goes.

You might talk to your counselor about a more challenging level of classes.

I have the same feelings.

My friends, on the other hand, are really stressing all the time from the amount of work.

However, I’m not taking an English, history, or a science this semester, so once those get thrown into the mix, I’m sure it’ll be much harder.

And class levels don’t always dictate the level of difficulty. I’m only taking two 100-level courses. The rest are 200 or 300 level.

LOL that’s what I thought my first quarter too…those sneaky professors with their cute 5 point quizzes, making you think everything is going to be fine. That’s all cool until the Midterm ambushes everyone around the 3 week mark (well I dunno when for you semester students).

Take harder classes. If it’s still too easy switch to a harder school. Repeat until it’s not too easy anymore.

It’s a month into school… Give it some time young padawan.

Wait until you take the tests…scary stuff, and very stressful. I would just see how this semester/quarter goes for you. If you ace all of your classes with no struggle, then talk to your adviser and sign up for “harder” classes.
