Don't get a mac now,wait!

what do you mean by limited MacBook shipments? I'm planning to get one this end of August, will they run out of stocks for education discount?

Retail stores might run out because Apple is probably trying to empty their inventory of their old notebooks to make way for the new ones. But I have no doubt that until the update comes along you will still be able to order a laptop from their website with an educational discountuntil of course September 15 when it ends. I'm waiting for as long as I can is case they do roll out an update before I leave for school in late August.

One more thing, if they don't roll out the update other companies are going to look a lot better to me because they are faster and have SSD. At that point I don't think it would be worth buying a mac for lower end darware and OS X...

just wondering, what other companies are everyone looking at? I was thinking sony but they're not very flexible when it comes to customizing. Any other ones that offer the new montevina platform and is extremely fast?

having a ssd option isn't going to factor in to that many college students decisions on what laptop they'll buy

hahahaha, that's true but it matters to people like me who are into that crap

HP has some options with the new platform.

Most manufacturers except Dell and Apple at this point have somt sort of version but I consider Dell and Apple to be of a better quality for the most part so I'm waiting.

i think apple will definitely release the new macbook and macbook pro lineup by the end of august, so i would wait to use the back to school promotion.

Has anyone read any updates recently about the new Macbook lineup? I'd really like to purchase a new Macbook Pro for college, but I hope it comes soon. Right now, the rumors I've read reference a glass trackpad and aluminum casing on the new Macbooks.

lol apple never tells you when they have a refresh.all we know is that it's always on a tuesday.

AppleInsider | Apple's next-gen Macs to have something special under the hood

Oh, great. Just when I convinced myself that I would go out and get my Mac this week. =/

I know what you mean, Zamzam. I had recently decided to go ahead and buy the current version, but after hearing all these new rumors about how changed the new Macbook will be, I think I'll just continue waiting.

you'll go through less hell if you get one now. everyone knows rev a apple products are crap.

^tomatoking, i don't get what you mean

I agree with tomatoking: from personal experiences, Revision A ('first generation') Macs tend to be far less reliable than later models.

Intel just announced a new stepping of their Penryn chips with two new instructions (it will take operating systems a while to support them) and better power and headroom numbers. I hear that they will overclock to 4.5 Ghz without too much trouble. 4.0 Ghz is the usual number with current stepping Penryns.

I buckled under pressure and bought a new MBP yesterday. Even if they announce a new model tomorrow I'll be happy with what I have... it's an excellent machine as is, and at least I know that mine won't have loads of issues that tend to plague first generation models.

If you really want/need a macbook now, just go out and get one. Enjoy it instead of killing yourself by waiting. Technology is revised all the time and it'll only be a matter of months before the new one you waited so long to buy will be overtaken by a faster and better model with new eyecandy.

Intel is doing x86 improvements about three times a year - so yes, anytime is a great time to buy a MacBook Pro.
