Don't get mad at this chance thread...New Interests, Schools, Grades, etc.

GPA: Cumulative about 4.3 weighted, 3.7 unweighted

Classes: Taken 2 AP classes so far. Plan to take 10 by the time I have graduated

School: Pretty good magnet school in Oklahoma

Ethnicity: Native American. Yes a real native american...

Scores: Hope to get ACT to at least a 32. Also hoping to get national merit, however, I am unsure about the national merit thing.

Ranking: About 20 in a class of 410

I am a solid writer, so I plan on writing a very good essay.

Extra Circulars-

Student Council: Very involved with leadership at school, regional, state, and national level. Student Council officer (Secretary 11th , Prez 12th grade) , will possibly be a state student council officer (i'll find out in november), attended national student council convention(11th, 12th)- it is difficult to become a delegate to go to this. I will have my student council advisor right a recommendation and this will be very good.

Tennis: 3 Year Varsity captain (thus far), will be a 4 year. 3 year MVP (Thus far), should be 4 year. State, regional, and national level play.. Play at a competitive academy and hit with the varsity tennis team at a local DI university. National Ranked, State Ranked...

Some volunteer stuff- Nothing amazing, but some things with hospice and cystic fibrosis.

I hope my tennis and student council accomplishments stand out..

Schools:

UC Berkeley, San Diego, Santa Barbara
Stanford
NYU-Business
Columbia
Pepperdine-
Tulane
Harvard, Princeton (haha)
Notre Dame-Business
Georgetown-Business
safeties- Tulsa, Arizona, Florida

Thanks all. I appreciate feedback

It's real hard to chance you without real SAT/ACT/SAT II scores.

For HPS, it looks bleak at the moment (again, no SAT scores doesn't help). Your GPA is low, your class rank/percentage is low, and your EC's are minimal. UC Berkeley, Columbia, NYU, and Georgetown are all reaches at this point.

Try making another chance thread when you have standardized test scores.

If you can bump up your grades, class rank, and get the test scores you want, I think you might have a good shot, considering your URM status.

Good luck

Yes.. I'm hoping for at least a 2100 on the sat. But hoping doesn't mean it is going to happen! But I have been doing well on practice tests and am taking the sat this fall.

What about Tulane and Pepperdine?

Thanks Again.

are you good enough to be recruited for tennis?

Probably at NYU and at Tulane if their tennis program gets started up again by then...The rest of the schools have really solid tennis programs.

UC Berkeley, San Diego, Santa Barbara-IN
Stanford-low reach
NYU-Business-low reach
Columbia-match
Pepperdine-match
Tulane-match
Harvard, Princeton (haha)-low reach
Notre Dame-Business-reach
Georgetown-Business-reach
Tulsa, Arizona, Florida-match

Harvard Stanford and Princeton low reaches?...You must be joking (no offense nate). HSP are reaches/high reaches for even the best of applicants...

I think you neglected to rad a certain line of the original post and realize what that means in terms of his chances with certain test scores and academic accomplishments.

^In response to above posts: Well, I don't understand how Harvard and Princeton will be lower reaches than Notre Dame or Georgetown, but the fact that he is Native American and from Oklahoma will help.

And please note that I did not neglect the URM status being helpful. But lets face it folks, HYPS is still a reach (and not a low one either), even if nate gets the scores he wants.

Thats all I was saying. But I really do wish you the best of luck nate!!

hey thanks everyone..

I do understand that the ivies are high reaches. my main interest schools are Tulane, pepperdine, nyu, ucsd, and texas! i forgot to put texas on the original list.

thanks again

and thank you ivy league wannabe- my mom is the only person in my family to attend college so im hoping for the best.

bump!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, you should apply to all the ivies.Native Americans are the most URM and most sought after by colleges. Your stats probably make you one of the most qualified Native Americans in the nation, so you have a great chance at Harvard and Princeton.

wooh, calling a 3.7 unweighted GPA low. THAT is low. Not everyone can be a valedictorian man.

only having taken 2 APs hurts him a tad bit though

^^For the ivy leagues, 3.7 is low man, especially considering there are thousands of applicants rejected by HYPS with 4.0 UWs. The Ivy leagues are insane competition and there is always someone applying there that is better than you.

Our valedictorian this year had a 4.0 UW and a 4.5 W. Had taken many AP classes and had 5s on most of them. He had over 2200 on SAT I and SAT IIs. He was waitlisted at Harvard...

Yeah.. I'm not really aiming for the top ivies, I just wanted to see my chances for them! i was really thinking about the other schools (Tulane, Pepperdine, Texas, etc)..

and for clarification I have taken 2 aps thus far and will have taken 10 by the time I graduate.

Thanks again
