@MantisTobaggan,

Think of the stereotypes of each career…

Then take note that when the original poster used “silly engineering man” as a put-down he was relying on previously-held stereotypes to make his statement offensive.

If he’s going to open himself up to public criticism like that, he probably should first check the public stereotypes surrounding his own dream career.

“silly engineering man” wasn’t really a put-down on the whole profession of engineering, more just Essenar as an individual.

Yeah, what horrible stereotyping by him. I mean “SILLY engineering MAN”!!! Everyone knows there are some straight-laced, no-nonsense, women engineers out there… COME ON!!

Riley lives up to his name and riles everyone up. Give the guy a break, he’s just trying to get around this world. If he falls flat by taking the easy way out, you don’t have to cry for him.

Exactly. I will have my myriad of loyal fans to do that.

@MantisTobaggan,

When he says “silly engineering man” it appears that he is implicitly pulling from the stereotypes of engineers as anti-social nerds who lack the charisma required to be a lawyer. The connotation and common context of the adjective “silly” furthers this effect.

Its not very hard to discern: it’s a personal attack aimed at trying to “little” the person on the other side of the argument by using the stereotypes surrounding the engineering occupation.

Boy, you sure can infer a lot from a simple three word phrase. You can probably infer anything from anything then. What am I secretly saying with this very post?!?!?

the “silly” –> “anti-social nerds who lack the charisma required to be a lawyer” connection was the most impressive one. kudos to you

That’s what happens when you do debate.

And the reason why I wrote so explicitly as to the meaning behind that little three word phrase: you didn’t pickup on it or understand it.

lol funny thread

What do you mean “that’s what happens when you do debate”?! Are you saying that because I don’t do debate that I somehow have a tiny, tiny pen1s?! I’m deeply offended by your post.

Yup, precisely. See, you’re good…

Everyone is so bitter in this thread. hahahaha

And RileyJohn, just study something you like. Sociology is applicable to law too.

That’s the whole point of this thread. lol I came here when I read about this thread in the Late Night Discussions thread. My purpose for being here is to stir shiz up.

I personally feel like I deserve recognition for starting a thread in which everyone can get out some frustration and stop blowing smoke up each other’s asses.

the Late Night Discussion Thread is damn good prime time advertising!!!
hahahaha

Riley,

I’ll give you credit me… The title of this thread was just genius.

It literally asks all flamers and ■■■■■■ to come out of the woodwork and into this thread. ahhaa

And, BTW, I am not and was never on a debate team. Nor have I ever done anything formally debate-related. I completely made that up. But I have studied and researched coded-language… But in the realm of modern racism… Not engineering stereotypes…

Ohhh so you’re saying I don’t have a tiny, tiny pen1s?! Thanks, apology accepted.

Are you planning on becoming a lawyer, Mantis? (Not flaming anymore.)

I dated a (now) celebrity during my senior year of high school. Just wanted to make you all jealous.
