don't give up-friend accepted with a 1950

just wanted to say don't give up, my friend got accepted last year with a 1950 and a 3.7 gpa. his ECs were nothing major, he wrote his essays about his passion in political science and how he tutors underprivileged kids every Sunday at a tutoring program he started during his senior year. not an URM, not a legacy, middle class.

yay..........

he got very lucky!

pix or liez

He doesn't get in based on nothing. Clearly, there was some factor that pushed his app over the edge, and unless he is a godly writer, a 1950 and 3.7 wouldn't cut it unless the 3.7 is at Exeter or some such school.

...and his father's best friend is the head adcom?

lieeeeeeeeeee!

1950/1600

i believe

If he is not legacy/urm/poor socio-economic background/development case/first gen/of a disadvantaged geographical location then he would have not made the initial grades and test score cuts. Together, they are just too low.

Geez - so much for a optimistic thread.

Uh, right. Proof, please? And of course your account doesn't look suspicious, considering it was made this month and has only one post. :]

Great, now I'll feel even worse when I get rejected.

^ Way to point that out, Rachael.

"Harvard does not have clearly defined, required minimum scores; however, the majority of students admitted to the College represent a range of scores from roughly 600 to 800 on each section of the SAT Reasoning Test as well as on the SAT Subject Tests. We regard test results as helpful indicators of academic ability and achievement when considered thoughtfully among many other factors."

Why not?

It's always nice to hear that SAT's are not the be all to end all. Congratulations to your friend!

I think that he must have had some crazy EC's if he got in harvard...maybe you're saying that he does not have great EC's b/c you have outstading EC's, and compared to your's, his aren't that great

@Amadeuic - Dude, I know, right? :(

Makes sense. A cousin of a girl in my class got accepted into Harvard with an 1800. Surprising, no?

1800...

Yes, that is surprising.

Do you think they could teach me how to turn water into wine?
It'd be great at parties.

Won't help you; Fitzy recently turned down Jesus' application on Harvard Time. :(
