I'm applying to several engineering schools and their essays most of the time pertain to engineering itself. For example, there's this one essay that asks us to explain on how that school will help us achieve our engineering goals. I'm kind of afraid that the essay I might do would be too 'technical' or come out as boring and even slightly pretentious. Is there any way that I can try to write such essays without being too cliche?

I think you should talk about all the resources that the school offers and how you plan to use them to achieve your goals. EX: Joining a Engineering Council where you can interact with other students who are pursuing the same field as you
