Don't know if I should add APUSH to my schedule!

I’ve been really confused on whether or not I can add APUSH to my schedule since APUSH is a lot of reading and so on.

So far my schedule next year for my junior year will be:

  1. Honors Pre-Calculus (everybody complains about this? apparently the tests are really confusing and hard)
  2. Art 2
  3. AP Lit (Lots of reading)
  4. AP Chemistry (I do really well in Honors Chem, but I’m worried since this is the hardest class and teacher in my school)
  5. Honors Spanish (I’m only okay at Spanish, usually like low As 91-94%)

I aiming for the UCs like UCSD, UCSB, UCLA, and Berkeley. My dream would be Johns Hopkins for pre-med stuff. I’m worried that with AP Chem, AP Lit, and Honors PreCalc I’ll have too much reading or work already, but I need more AP classes. I heard APUSH is a ton of work and boring so I’m not sure. I only took one AP this year, AP EURO, but my school only allows for 1-2 in your sophmore year, depending on how many classes you skipped over the summers. I need more APs but I’m taking most of my APs in my senior year, but I’ll only be able to put my junior and below AP scores on my college apps right?

*Also freshman gpa 4.0, this year gpa 4.33. I get mostly high A’s in my classes. I’m also busy with track, cross country, piano, and internship at a nearby hospital.

Do it. Just do it.

In all seriousness, you need to weigh in a few factors: the rigor of your other classes, your ECs, clubs, sports, job, etc.
You mentioned that you do track and cross country, which will take up some of your afternoon and weekend time in both semesters. Piano lessons will take up more time, and your internship will take up even more time. The jump from one AP to two or three, along with other time-consuming honors classes, can be hard for some people. If you think that you could juggle APUSH with your other classes, ECs, sports, etc, then you should definitely sign up for it. However, you should only take classes if you are interested, albeit you could grow to love certain classes even if you thought that you disliked them before.

On your college apps, you can list your AP scores, but, in the end, you can just send a score report with all of your scores, including end-of-senior-year scores.

If you want to go to those colleges, you will have to do well. You cannot expect to be admitted just because you took AP classes. Well-rounded individuals prove that they can handle all types of things, not just academics. You seem qualified, so you should be fine.

Thank you! I’ve been kind of confused on the submitting ap scores topic. By the time I take the test near the end of the year and send them, would the college have already chosen who’s admitted and who isn’t?

If you’re serious about aiming for pre-med at JHU and similar top schools, you need to take APUSH and excel along with your other APs and ECs.

Okay thank you so much! Seeing all the other people on here who do fine with all their five APs I think I’ll try my best to get A’s in all of my classes with APUSH

@joyce1517 AP scores are self-reported on college apps, so they’ll be able to see all your AP scores up to and including junior year. AP scores (and spring semester grades) from senior year won’t count though.
