Don't Know What I want to be (help!?)

I have a 4.1 gpa and have been accepted to UCLA, UCI, Cal Poly SLO, and SDSU. However, I don’t know if going to college right is the right choice for me. I’m an undeclared major and I have no clue what I want to be in the future. I am really like math (although I took calculus and I did fairly poorly) but I am not really passionate about studying anything else. I lack interest in a lot of things and I have no creativity or any particular talent. I like playing I’m very afraid of going to college and wasting my time and money not to know what I want to do. I have visited Cal Poly SLO and SDSU but not the other two campuses yet. They both seem good but a lot of people has downplayed the idea of going to a CSU over UCLA. I have contemplated going to community college (SD Mesa) first before transferring, but having already taking classes there, the dead and unmotivating environment is really not for me.

I really need some help on deciding what college to go to. I applied for scholarships but have won only one, so I will already be in debt going to college. I have all this pressure on me as one of the top students of the school which is making it worst. I need to make a decision two days from now at the latest, so I would greatly appreciate all the advice.

The only motivation I have for living right now is helping my low-income family. My interest in everything has deteriorated over this past year and it keeps getting worst.

Then what was your motivation to study so hard to stay on top of your class and to get admitted to some of the most seclective schools in the country?

Get a copy of the Book of Majors (maybe your GC or library has one). Go through with post its, maybe two colors, and flag “very interesting” and “maybe interesting” majors. Then look for groupings or common themes, which can be helpful.

Pick your top 2-3 of what you flagged. When you get to college, try to take a couple classes in each freshman year. Also spend time in the college career office doing more in-depth analysts on what you can do with each major. Probably not freshman year, but after that they might be able to help you search for an internship that could help you try something out.

Since your college decision is right on you, I’d pick one of the schools that offers a lot of majors, and on that appeals to you otherwise and is affordable.

UCLA has a lot to offer – take a variety of core classes, join some clubs. You do not have to know what you want, really. Also if you feel the motivation issue is holding you back, maybe talk to a therapist. Good luck!
