don't know what to do

in SAT II Biology, I received 660, 640, 640. I decided that i would not retake it anymore. But i have 3 months until the November exam because I am currently studying for chemistry. Should i study biology along with chemistry and try to hit 800 in that Biology? I know that taking a test for the 4th time is pathetic, but would the score improvement balance out my numerous retakes?

Assuming that you studied before each retake, it seems that unless you change the way you approach the bio exam your score won’t go up, since it consistently has not improved. What have you been doing to study?

If I were you I would focus on chemistry, if you’re able to score higher on practice exams and the material is intuitive for you. If you can figure out a new way to approach biology, it might be worth a final try (if the schools you’re applying to require both subject tests). Just don’t focus on biology so much that you sacrifice your chem score.

Check if the schools you’re applying to allow score choice. If they do, you don’t have to worry about colleges seeing your retakes.

The most recent test I studied the sections that I didn’t know too well really thoroughly. I honestly expected a much higher score but I don’t know what happened.

Thanks a lot for your reply

I can offer some suggestions, but before I do it would be good to know a couple of things. What have you been using as your study aides (books, online resources)? Also, what biology courses have you taken?

I’ve used PR and Sparknotes but I’ve found that the information is too general and hasn’t prepared me well enough. I’m using Barrons now.

I’ve taken an honors biology course and AP Biology (got a 4 on the test)

You’ve got your score for the biology – let it go. Focus on the chemistry for November. Don’t spread yourself too thin, or beat yourself up over the bio score. A good chemistry performance will be viewed just as favorably, if not more so, as raising your biology score on the fourth attempt.

I’m assuming you actually have taken a chemistry course :)

I would say that chemistry is very ‘studiable.’ In fact, it only took me about 4 days to go from a 670 to 770 with some hardcore studying. By the way that was using PR. I strongly recommend PrincetonReview for the Chem if your just aiming for around 730-770 because it covers the basics very well and is easy to read.

Honestly it seems like your wasting your time with Bio. Chem is less brute memorization and seems more conceptual (to me atleast).
