Don't know where else to ask this

Hi guys, this will be an odd question but there's plenty of bright people here so why not try? Besides HS Life is pretty random as it is. :P

Anyways, my city is devoid of video rental stores, and the Blockbuster we always go to just closed down. There's a Family Video with a great selection and extremely close to my house, but when it first opened a few years ago we screwed that opportunity up within the first few months it was open. We rented a game which I lost (I was only 9) but returned a while later and I think the fee is something like $40. I really want to be able to use this account, especially as I'll be getting my license soon and even more so that Blockbuster closed.

I can't open up an account as I'm not 18, and I can't open one up under someone else's name as they would know as you need to provide some form of ID if you don't look like the desc. of the account holder.

Anyways, how can I convince them to lessen or drop the fees altogether? Ideally, I'm not paying more than $15 on something that WAS eventually returned to them.

I was thinking of telling them "Look, the game was returned to you, and we're not paying that fee. The only difference between you dropping the fee or not is that if you drop it you'll actually have business from us in the future, and the only reason we lost the game in the first place was because I was young."

Any ideas? Sorry for length. And yes, it does matter to me. :P

Get Netflix.

Pretty sure if you say you’ll never pay the fee they could sue you… And they might do so.

Have you considered Netflix?

Netflix is sooo good

Let me retort as they probably will: “We have X hundred paying customers a week who are willing to pay what they owe. Your account won’t make or break us. Conversely, we’re the only video store in town. You can pay what you owe if you want to rent from us. If not, I’m calling a debt collector, just because of you showing up here today. Have a nice day.”

May not be that harsh, but it’ll be as effective as trying to haggle with Walmart.

There is also Blockbuster dot com on line same as Netflix and I just saw that Redbox is planning the same thing.

Well, its solved enough. I think you guys are expecting that they would take this way too seriously. I called and asked if the fee was negotiable and he says half at $20 and I explained that I had some sort of idea that it was around a $40 fee total and that I had $15 in mind as $20 sort of crosses over the line to a little absurd for something that was eventually returned to them. He thought about it for awhile and agreed.

More than happy to pay $15 and get this solved. Also learned that that game I was talking of only was about a $13 fee and that the rest was from **** my sister forgot, contrary to what she told is. Needless to say we limited the possible account users to my parents and I only. :P
