Don't know whether to transfer or not...

I am not unhappy at my current school. For all intensive purposes, it works. But with that said, I am not particularly ecstatic at it either and dislike several aspects of it. Socially, I have a group of friends I really care about; Academically, I am satisfied. But with that said, I wish a lot of things were different both socially and academically.

While certain aspects of the school that I was accepted to really excite me (i.e. more interesting & progressive education, smaller classes, learning for the sake of learning environment, etc.), I am worried that I will transfer and regret it. Though the schools are completely polarized, I cannot determine which school is the better social & academic fit for me. (They are comparable in terms of rank/prestige/cost).

One of my options would be to return to my current school in the fall and decide to transfer in spring, if I still want to. But I do not feel as though this is the best approach because I would probably become even more reluctant to leave, though it may actually be the better place for me. My gut tells me that my acceptance happened for a reason and I have to risk it to get the biscuit it… but I just don’t know.

–> Why I want to transfer: new social opportunities, smaller school, and more “fun” education.
–> Why I am reluctant to transfer: social opportunities may not be better, may not fit in, upset friends/family, and not sure which school offers better education.

Thank you so much for all the help/counseling/therapy (especially if you read all the way to here :D)… I really need it!

Do what makes YOU happy, not others…my advice for what it is worth. Do it.

PS: forgive me, one of my peeves…“for all intents and purposes”…sorry for “mom”- ing you!!

Well there are risks in every decision. If risk was a slam dunk, everybody would do it. I’ve taken some risks and most of the time they worked out for me but there are times they didn’t go so well. So play the whatifs game. But honestly, I’m a big risk taker, especially when I was younger, now I do my due diligence and go forward. Good luck with your decision.
