Dont neeed Mid Year Reports?

I kno some people sent them in already, but I've kinda of been putting of sending them, becuase their pretty horrible. so far the only email ive recieved from Princeton is an email saying their missing my SAT scores....so iono. I only want to send them if their really necessary...

they are reeally necessary.. if you want to be admitted...

The reality is that many students do not do as well on their midyear grades as they did throughout high school. The reason is that most applicants are taking all their classes in school while writing about 10 or more college applications, retaking any SAT II subject tests ect. There really is no time. Even though the schools askf or the mid year grades, I do not believe they put as much emphaisis on them. After all, all those who were accepted early did not even have to supply them. It is not that schools like Brown and other ivy league did not accept those they deferred early because their grades were not strong enough and they wanted to see if they could get them up a little. The reality is that those who were deferred were either in one of three categories. Either they were high level deferrals who were very compelling in every way, but there were just not enough spots and they just were not taken. Or, they had high grades and high SAT scores but were not very compelling in terms of their extra curriculars and did not stand out in the crowd. The midyear report even if it is slightly lower than how the applicant typically performed will not make or break that applicant. The only way the midyear report would have any great affect is if the applicant had high SAT scores and good grades but not great but then showed spectacular performance in the midyear grades.
The colleges have transcripts from every sesmester of every year of high school. They know that the senior first semester is very difficult to perform extremely well given all the other time constraints.

I don't have midyear grades because my school is on the trimester system; as far as I know, that's the only legitimate excuse for not sending any.

Well, I am hoping they do matter since my son did really well especially in a particularly tough course.

^ i hope they matter too. :(

Camelia - according to the form that I printed out, you should send in your first trimester grades. There's a blank for them and for that option...so I would go ahead and do that if I were you.

I got deferred from Penn and in the deferral letter it is specified that the mid-year report is going to be one of the most important factors in deciding whether a deferree will be admitted or not.

Using as an excuse SATs and applications I dont think is valid. Idk how but this last semester ended up being the best one in all my highschool years.

If an applicant's grades decreased by 1% 1st sem senior yr I dont think itll be that important anyway.

gohan... if Princeton requires them, then send them!

j07: First trimester ended November 30; the grades were already on the transcript my school sent in December. Sorry I didn't clarify.
