GPA 3.8? unweighted, 4.7 weighted
SAT 800 CR 800 W 780 M even though math is my strongest subject
SAT II 800 Physics 800 Math II 790 Chemistry

APs
All 5's
Calc BC, Physics B, Stats, APUSH, Chemistry
Now taking AP... Euro, Physics C, English Lit, Spanish, Bio
I'm the teacher's assistant for AP Chem and I'm also taking multi

ECs, essays, all are good

I don't have many math or science related activities though
I did research last summer, thats one, and I tutor a lot of math physics and chem, thats two
but I have nothing to fill the third slot

What do you think about my chances at Caltech?

I'm curious how your GPA was weighted if it went up almost a full point. Did you take out non-academic classes? Or did you give all honors classes an extra point?

So it's not ok to read the last sentence you posted? But your last sentence says it is ok to read the main post, whereas your subject says don't read this.

I don't think anyone feels like commenting on your chances at the moment. Why don't you start by saying why you want to apply to Caltech?

^^ This. Also, chances are pretty much a waste of time. You're in range of what is common for admitted students, but many people in this same range get rejected. There is a much larger picture than what is presented by statistics.

i think it matters more if you can show that the two activities you have are important to you than whether you have three of them.

if you want a third one, have you ever done any math contests/ member of math club?

Caltech admission seems kinda different than other colleges' admissions systems--they might care relatively more about scores and yours are very good, so I think it's fine.

that was my point in general, there is no focus on science anywhere and you seem to lack interest in it.
Cal Tech is a heavy research scientific institute, from what I can tell, you just want to go there for its name and not for what it does

GimmeStanford, if the research is good enough, you don't need any other "activities" to get into Caltech (maybe true for anyone, almost certainly true for someone with your record otherwise). If the research is an "activity" on par with a school science club, having a third "activity" of that sort won't change your admissions odds much one way or the other.
For activities, I recommend observing ants, picking locks, and repairing radios. :)

do you want to feel good and then get rejected or do you want to feel bad and get accepted, quite honestly, you can live with 36 days of torture, and then you can laugh at us, otherwise, yeah honesty is the only way to go
