Don't Stress Deferrals

A friend of mine was deferred yesterday from MIT. His stats....

2400 SAT (yes, perfect)
800 MII Subject Tests, 740 Spanish, and I think 800 chem
Rank: 1/319
GPA unweighted: 3.96 (89% in AP U.S. History)
He has taken I think 9 AP Tests (8 5s, one 4) in his first 3 years of HS and will total about 15 once he is complete.
To name a few of his ECs: he is the president of NHS and participates in Varsity Cross Country, Indoor Track, and Outdoor Track.
I know his teacher recs were great.

Moral of the Story: Don't fret EA deferrals. Even a seemingly perfect application can be initially turned down.

Not turned down! Deferred. I know what you meant, but connotation’s important. Deferred people have been moved to the RA cycle. That’s literally the only thing that’s happened - not “polite rejection” or anything like that.

And I want to emphasize this again and again.

Admission is merely a myth. Anything can happen.
