Don't these titles all boil down to the same thing? Chance, please.

White female from Kansas

GPA (approx.): 3.8/4.25
SAT: 800 CR, 790 W, 700 M
SAT II: 800 US History, 800 Literature
ACT: 34
Class Rank: Somewhere in the top 10%, class size about 375.

APs:
Euro: 5
US History: 4
English Lit: 5
English Language: 5
Psychology: 4/5...haven't gotten it back yet!

I've taken four years of both Spanish and German, which I'm told is fairly uncommon, if that's at all relevant.

Extracurriculars (a little disjointed, due to moving):
Model UN (9, 10)
German Club, President (9, 10, 11)
Environmental Club (9, 10, 11)
Young Democrats (11)

There are a few more, but these are the most significant. I don't want to blather on about ten different things.

I have 100+ volunteer hours, mostly tutoring younger kids in German and helping out with a local peer mentoring program.

I'm also going to be studying abroad for my senior year. It's something I've always wanted to do, and I expect I can write a good essay about it. My recommendations should be fairly impressive as well.

Chances for:
-U. Chicago
-Williams
-Middlebury
-Macalester
-Reed
-Wesleyan
-Wellesley
-Mount Holyoke
-Bryn Mawr
-Smith

I have no experience chancing people for LACs, but it seems like you’re an enviable candidate for many schools. Your ECs might be a little bit on the weak side, but that’s counterbalanced by your depth of participation.

U of Chicago: write some great essays and you’ve got a good shot! everywhere else, I have no idea.

Good luck! You’ll do great.

-U. Chicago - Match, if you have great essays and recs
-Williams - High Match
-Middlebury - Low Match
-Macalester - Low Match/Safety
-Reed - Match
-Wesleyan - Low Match
-Wellesley - Low Match/Match
-Mount Holyoke - Low Match
-Bryn Mawr - Safety
-Smith - Low Match/Safety

Honestly…I think you have a great chance for all of them

besides u chicago your guaranteed in everywhere, u chicago is 90% chance.
make sure to put that u want to intl relations/language etc (assuming that is what u wanto to do!)

Hey… you are a great candidate at all of your schools and I wouldn’t be surprised if you were accepted at any one of them. None seem like huge long shots. However, I don’t know that everyone chancing you is totally informed. Schools like Middlebury, Wesleyan and Williams are not matches, much less low matches for anyone really. They have very low acceptance rates, and like to take GPA into account a lot. Your testing is stellar. Absolutely outstanding! However, your GPA is less stellar. I assume you have gotten more than a couple of Bs. If these were during your freshman year, this will be understandable… but a lot of the schools you have listed value GPA more than SATs. I visited Middlebury recently and an admissions officer said she wouldn’t be surprised if in four years, they refused to take the SAT. Your transcript is very important. Everyone at my school who has been accepted to Mid (according to Naviance) has had a 4.0 or very close… like a 3.97. It seems you have taken on a tough course load, which is great! But I just feel that calling a school like Middlebury a low match for ANYONE is a misinformed statement. I think you have great chances at all of the schools and you will be an impressive candidate, but going in thinking you will get into some of these competitive schools for sure… (not to insinuate that you think this… I’m mostly speaking to other “chancers”) is a bit foolish.

That said. I think you have a great shot at ALL of those schools. And you have a nice amount of safeties on your list. You could easily be accepted to all of those schools, but keep in mind, nothing is a sure thing.

Good luck! I don’t mean to sound condescending, really! You seem awesome and you are very impressive! It just bothers me when people seem to respond to chance threads without seeming all that informed about certain schools.

I agree with Anonymous? and not with confidentia. Reed is another that is a safety for no one, especially since GPA and test scores together count for only 20% or less of admission criteria. Fit is paramount, which derives much more from essays, interview and recommendations. Reed looks like a match for you, meaning 50/50 chance, since fit is unpredictable.

-U. Chicago: Match
-Williams: High Match
-Middlebury: Match
-Macalester: Match
-Reed: Match
-Wesleyan: Match
-Wellesley: Match
-Mount Holyoke: Match
-Bryn Mawr: In
-Smith: In

You guys are incredibly nice in your chancing. Williams as a high match? Williams is a very hard school to get into … Is it because she’s from Kansas?

-U. Chicago - Match/High Match
-Williams - High Match
-Middlebury - Match
-Macalester - Match/Sfety
-Reed - Match
-Wesleyan - Match
-Wellesley - Match
-Mount Holyoke - Low Match
-Bryn Mawr - Safety
-Smith - Low Match/Safety

Finally, someone with a realistic list. You should do especially well at the women’s colleges. Williams, Midd and Wes are reaches if you’re not top 5%.
