So one of the school i have been accepted to is Point Park. I visited the program and liked everything about it. Unfortunately though due to the cost of the school and what little money they give it looks like i won’t be able to even think about attending. After getting my FASA results back i got a $6000 talent scholarship from the school, and also got a $3,000 grant. However when my family and I talked to financial aid on the phone they told us that whatever money we got in scholarship would come off of my grant. So instead of having a total package equal to $9000, it would come out the same and be $6000 still. I have never heard of a school doing this, and quite frankly we’re disappointed since it looks like we can’t even consider the school now. Anyone else in the same boat as me? And is there anything I can do to try and maybe get a little more money from the school?

These discussions are going on at kitchen tables all over the United States this week. My son is in the same situation - he would love to attend this school but is it better borrowing more money to attend PP or go to maybe a 2nd or 3rd choice school (still very good programs) and graduate with less debt?
We are a middle income family and even with the scholarship this school is expensive - not even counting all the $4 lattes one can buy in downtown Pittsburgh during an academic year.

You can probably get a bit more of a talent scholarship from PP - I think they go as high as 12-14K for students they really want. But will you be able to attend if they upped your award to that? If not, you should move on - as others have said on this and other threads: do not take on a lot of debt for a theater degree.
If you would attend with a higher talent award, this is the week to call as I see some accepted students have already told them No.
Good luck
