People are telling me not to transfer to UCLA. They are stating that, if i attend UCLA as a Biology major. My GPA would drop and I won't be able to get into a graduate school. They just recommend me to just attend UCI or an easier UC.
And I would really like to attend UCLA, but after hearing all this; I'm really sketchy.

I kinda researched and saw that once I transfer I would be done with my GE's and my prereqs which is around 80 units. Which only leaves upper division classes. I heard you need around 130 units to get a BS so, I'm estimating 3 units per class so 130-80= 50 units of upper division. 50/3= 17 upper division classes left. And since CC are on a semester system and UCLA is on a quarter system I heard it was much harder. Stories like once 3 weeks has past your on already on your midterm.

Can someone enlighten me on this? So I can get a better view of the UC system, instead of degrading words from ignorant people.

UCLA is one of the top UCs. which makes it one of the most competitive UCs. so you will definitely have to work harder to get the same grade you would at a CC or or an "easier" UC.

and all UCs except berkeley are on quarter system. it is fast, but people manage. yes midterms can start 3rd week into the quarter. i dont think its harder, just faster. just keep up with the class and dont completely slack off/skip class etc and you will do fine. if you really want semester, then look at CSUs and privates.

are you just looking to get in to grad school or are you looking to goto med school?

Thanks for the reply VTEC. I'm trying to get into pharmacy school. I work around Irvine so most of my co-workers are UCI students. Right now I see them stressing over their GPA, thinking if they can get into Pharm school or not.

What is Berkeley on? I'm going to assume semester system?

how hard is it to get an A at a UC? or even a B?

Its 180 quarter units at minimum for a degree from ucla, 60 of those quarter units have to be upper division.

Midterms can and often times do start 3rd, especially since you have more than one midterm usually.

Quarter is HARDER because its FASTER........ .

You will have to work hard to get a good gpa..

Bio also has a lot of weeder classes as in the LS series, which really doesnt help your gpa unless you work very very hard.... you could always choose a different major for pharm school.

besides, yes quarter system is faster, but it allows you to FOCUS on three or four classes at a time, and then move on. you get more variety throughout the year. and i love only having three classes (next quarter four) instead of trying to balance 5 or 6, like the semester system.
it's not MORE work overall. it's just faster-paced, which is good for some people and bad for others. very bad for procrastinators

i personally think quarter system helps in the long run. If you screw up one quarter with a bad gpa, you have more chances to make it up. On the semester system, you screw up badly one semester and its harder to catch up. Im guessing ur premed (biology major). I really doubt that your bio classes are gonna be easier at other UC's and many of my HS friends that go to UCI, UCSD, UCR, Cal tell me that its pretty hard. Bottom line, don't come or not come to UCLA because its hard or because its a quarter system. All the UCs are on a quarter system save Cal and premed is hard everywhere.

Biology major is so much easier than biochem...The average of Psych 115 is A...A&O 104 is A also. EEB 100 is regarded as easy. Just don't take any MIMG, chem and biochem classes, then you'll be fine. Chem 153A becomes harder now, cuz Dr Bates changes her exams into more conceptual way.

You want to go to pharmacy school, right? But what happens if your goals change?

Which degree will mean more on the market? In the long-run, UCLA is obviously a better choice than UCI for a lot of things. And really, if you have trouble handling undergrad, then is pharmacy school a good idea? Grad school doesn't really get a whole lot easier.
