Okay, so I failed to sign up for the ACT on time, which is totally my fault. However, their website talks about the whole "standby testing" and how I fill out that form, bring it with me to the place, and just show up to test.... that's a bit weird.

Can someone explain to me how this works, and what I'm supposed to do. I haven't paid for the test yet, so just showing up seems a bit strange. I tried calling, but it's Memorial Day.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! (:

As I understand it, if someone else does not show or cancels, you have a chance to get a seat. It’s not guaranteed- thus the term stand by. Just follow the directions on the ACT website, show up as if you are prepared to take the test, calculator, snack, etc. Good luck. You can also look for alternative sites … when our regular site was booked we found another one within driving distance.

Each test site is sent a handful of extra tests, plus they anticipate a number of no shows. To take the test stand by you must complete the registration form in a printed format and bring it with you to the test sight. Arrive early and announce yourself as a stand by. If space allows they will admit you to the test and act will bill you on your profile and you will pay by credit card on line after the test has been administered. My daughter took the April test stand by, after our travel plans fell through and she was home rather than out of town. It was a last minute decision – she took the test cold and got a 33! So don’t lose faith.
