Hey guys! Just made an account and decided to ask a question I've been wondering about for a while.

When I came to my high school as a freshmen (I'm now a junior), a lot of people I knew started drinking heavily and doing drugs. Some have died, others dropped out, etc.

To be perfectly honest, I don't want to have to deal with that in college. I know there's going to be partying (no problem with that!) but will the amount of drug usage drop down? Sorry if i sound like some "nun". Lol. But a lot has happened in my high school with people getting into car accidents and stuff... Ugh, it's just a lot of death and sadness in the air... =/

I live off campus so I don’t know a lot about the party scene but I know it’s as present here as it is at other schools. I have a friend who is living in the Towers and one of her roommates smokes pot. The NORML (National Organization for Reform of Marijuana Laws) chapter here is one of the largest in the country.

There is a lot of drinking too. It’s one of the largest schools in the country, so of course you’re going to run into that.

My personal opinion is that marijuana is pretty tame and lots of people smoke without it affecting their personal life, even though I’ve never personally smoked it. I’m sure there is some use of harder drugs here, even though I haven’t personally witnessed it.

All in all I would say you can avoid most of it by choosing who you associate with and aligning yourself with people who don’t do drugs. Other people’s partying hasn’t really gotten in my way yet, but I’m sure it will at some point. That’s just a fact of life when you’re going to one of the largest schools in the country!

Thanks for the reply! I guess you’re right, it is just life. I guess I’ll just have to associate myself with the people who don’t do all that =) (drinking is fine but getting drunk and doing stupid things is where i cross the line =/) Thanks a ton!

From one who is leaving Arizona State University and hoping to get into UCF someday, drugs are everywhere on campus, at least here at ASU. The reason I’m leaving ASU is due to drugs. I’m just glad I realized my mistakes now before I was dead. Now I could stay at ASU, however I want a fresh new start now that I’m drug free besides alcohol. But imwmucf is totally right, it all depends who you associate yourself with. If and when I go to UCF i’ll be making sure the people I associate myself with aren’t into hardcore drugs like my two best friends here. It’s really not worth it. Even if you do survive doing drugs, it can screw up your relationship with friends and family, bring down your grades, and get you associated with the wrong crowd. But it sounds like you have your head in the right place. It’s college so the drugs will be there, just stay away from them if you can.

And yeah, I guess I’ll just have to make sure I don’t associate with the kind of people I have in the past who ended up almost killing themselves and choosing drugs over their family/friends. I just hope that college won’t be AS bad. But that’s just a hope.

I went to UCF for six years and now I am at Georgia Tech. I go to school and then to my apartment and then back to school and … I always mind my own business i.e., studies. I make friends with people who go to a university to study with extremely low preference to other activities. I have never seen a drug in my life other than when they show it on TV or movies. I hope there is some moral here.
