Don't want to get a failing grade in this course, what should I do?

I have recently transferred to another college and have been feeling really depressed throughout the entire semester... As a result, I have had a very difficult time getting some of my homework done and am worried that I will fail one of my classes (I haven't done 3 out of the 4 required papers for this class and got a low grade on the midterm). I'm so embarrassed by this situation (as I normally do well in my classes) that I haven't even told anyone in my inner circle about it.
I don't know what to do... Should I talk to my professor? Could I get an incomplete for this course (I'm not sure that being depressed would be considered as a "serious medical condition")?

Ps: It's too late for me to withdraw from this class.

Ps #2: English isn't my native language so I apologize for the misspelled words and/or improper grammar.

If it is a required class, I would talk to the professor and see if anything can be done to recover my grade. If nothing can be done, I would take the grade. If it isn’t terribly low (like a C), then I will just swallow it and move on. Otherwise, I would retake the class later.

If you are on the verge of failing, it might be better to take the incomplete.

1) Are you seeing a doctor about your depression? If so, you need to document it. If it’s documented, it will be considered a legitmate medical condition.
2) Talk to your Professor and see if you can make up the papers or get an incomplete
3) Pass/Fail so it doesn’t drag down your GPA.
4) Talk to a dean and see if you can withdraw (they make exceptions to deadlines)

Not turning in 3 papers without talking to your Professor may hurt your case. If you are a freshmen, it may help. I can’t speak from personal experience. I have received extensions on papers, but that’s about it.

I am just curious: why did you not withdraw after not turning in papers?

To everyone having problems adjusting to college:

See a doctor, document your visits. That way the Professor knows you are not making anything up, otherwise you are relying completely on the Professor being lenient and understanding.

This is a general question but I wasn’t aware that colleges let you have incomplete courses. If that’s the case then I’d try and get that if I was in your shoes. Inc means you drop the class, right?

First thing to do is meet with the professor. One option to consider is withdrawing from the class and getting a “W” on your transcript. Don’t make this a habit, but one “W” on your transcript won’t hurt. It’s better than an “F”. However, if the professor is going to give you the option of handing in the 3 late papers without too much of a penalty, you may want to consider it. Only consider it if you plan to really put the work into the class.

step 1:

pass the course
