Don't want to go to the school I listed as my top choice for NM- am I out of luck?

I put WUSTL as my top choice (knowing that they might give me a scholarship), but now that the whole decisions process is over I'm going to Duke next year and I'm wondering if there's any way for me to get any money from National Merit. Would I have gotten the general $2500 scholarship if I didn't list a top choice school? Or is that a completely separate award? Any help is appreciated.

Anyone? It's probably too late now, but I'm still interested.

While Duke does offer some merit scholarships I don't know if they offer NMFS. Winning a single award scholarships is not easy - everyone automatically is entered so you already tried.

You can change it! Just call NMS now and have them change your top choice from WUSTL to Duke. That is assuming you got a monetary award from NMS. If you didn't get the $2500 from NMS and Duke doesn't give money for National Merit Finalists you're outta luck.

I believe that the deadline for changing was 5/5, but call them and find out.

If you haven't already heard from NM that you received the $2500 scholarship, you didn't get one. Those all went out several weeks ago.

They are still sending letters re college sponsored scholarships. You have until 5/31 to finalize your first choice school. There is a fax number to send that college choice card, which you should have, but if not, check their website (nationalmerit.org) - all the info is there. I don't believe Duke sponsors NM scholarships, so unfortunately, you may not get any money. WUSTL is a sponsor, so if you had gone there, you'd have had a better chance. I hope this info helps - good luck!

Did WUSTL already offer you a scholarship already based on your NMF qualification. I thought that once you were offered a scholarship from a school or business, you could not be offered another one.
