One of my professors today, just before starting lecture: “I’ll try not to yell and scream at you guys today if you yawn too loudly…”

^ Good humor. Its a shame that this rant will color some people’s perception of Cornell for a little while, but it’ll pass lol.

I don’t think it reflects Cornell at all - I’m sure you can find psycho teachers at any college/ high school across the country!

@monydad I don’t think anyone could fake a sneeze, I do sneeze repeatedly when I am sick (4-5 times in a row), and I sneeze like a normal person sneezing through a microphone hooked up to multiple speakers. People will surely giggle, as has happened throughout highschool, but I don’t think I can help with that. Except not get sick in the first place xD

@elbeeen lol I once had a Scottish teacher who asked me to pick up a toad in the hallway and put it in the soccer field She also skipped an entire lesson to investigate whoever stole her bottle of orange juice (she made the entire class go out of the room and interviewed everyone separately) In the end nothing came of that… she probably forgot she haven’t brought one today. One time my friends were playing basketball and the ball slipped and hit a pipe hanging on the side of the building, it was broken a long time ago and it was unused. She said you’ll have to pay for that, it’s school property. Another time when she was the substitute sitting in for a Student Council meeting, I asked the Council where some particular students were and some ppl said they’re out on an exam. I said fine I just wanted to check up on their posters, let’s move on. The teacher said nonono, you cannot make decisions for other people when they’re away. I told her they already agreed to do the posters, she had to repeat no, it is not acceptable to make decisions for other people when they are not present.
She only stayed for one year.

I hope the professor doesn’t lose his job over this.

it might affect his shot at tenure or w/e…although not sure how they do things in the hotel school.

class is kind of a joke though. (no hotel hate).

The hotel school is a joke.

Wow, this man is my hero. I have been teaching at a state school for over 20 years. He is totally within his right to call out improper behavior.

He is the professor, having a PHD or Masters. These students are 17, 18 or 19.

What is wrong with us that we have lost that respect of elders or those with higher credentials.

Hah, some student today yawned loudly on purpose and we all (including our prof) had a good laugh about it.

I mean, sure, yawning loudly is disrespectful, but not to the point of stopping lecture and attempting to single out the student.
