I found that I missed 2 of the "easy" questions on the math section. I couldn't stop thinking about it for the next week. I missed one of the difficulty "1" questions because I added 95+35 in my head incorrectly, and I missed a difficulty "2" question because I misread the question.

Those two questions were the difference between my 720 on math and a 790.
They were also the difference between my 2170 and my wannabe 2240. So now I'm thinking about retaking in October of my senior year in order to satisfy myself.

The SAT is like a drug: one never can get enough, no matter how high he/she gets!

It depends on which section you're talking about, and which test date you're talking about: the curve is always slightly different. I took the January SAT (2008)

With math if you missed 3 (as with me) you're already down to 720, whereas with reading you could miss 5 (like me) and still get a 730. Writing is a crapshoot because it depends on your essay and the MC questions.

And then there's the question of "to omit, or not to omit". Because if you get 2 wrong, it's only like missing 2. But if you get 3 wrong, it's the same as having 4 points off your raw score due to the 1/4 point off for every wrong answer. BUT, if you miss 2 and then OMIT 1, you only miss 3 raw points.

In order to get a 2100, you need to average 700 on each section. So at MOST, I would say you could miss 3 on Math, 7 on Critical Reading, and writing is again a crapshoot. But remember that scores can compensate for each other and so it really just depends on making sure you max out your strengths and improve your weaknesses.

Haha I can totally relate to the drug thing. 2100 was my original goal, and 700+ on each section, but now my goal has gone up to 2300. I just can't seem to be satisfied with my score.

But yes I definitely hate that. I especially hated logging on to CC the day I took the SAT to see the board of SAT answers and saw that I had done something so stupid ]: Bah the SAT makes me obsessive and blah.
