Don't you love western media?

I just love western media.

In the soccer match btw canada and China, all the fans were saying jia you jia you (cheering, sorta like go go go), and the reporters were all like look at how impressive the canadian team is. With all the booing from the crowd, they can still manage to tie the game.

And ofcourse China only got gold in diving because all the judges ruled in their favor, and the crowd was so loud (even though ya'know, they were as loud for any other good dive). The medals in gymnastics were obviously because they had underaged girls (we can't prove it, but that must be the reason because a communist country who won't allow tibet to separate (even though tibet doesn't even want to separate) can never win).

And hey look the US is doing so good in the medal race, even though track hasn't started yet! I mean look at this amazing race by the US swimmer who won the bronze medal (though the chinese won gold... ofcourse we won't mention that). Look even without track we are owning in medal count! Look at all the beautiful bronze medals we got, a lot more impressive than your golds. What? NO! We never say quality over quantity... it's quantity over quality!

What was that? Oh the Chinese girl who was the favorite to win in trampolines fell and hurt her arm and got disqualified? Let's look at that! Lets replay it once more, no twice, no ten times! what a wonderful day this is! We mgiht finally when a medal!

And look at the brave tourists who went to tiananmen square to protest. Ofcourse we should send them to China and make Tibet separate because Tibet deserves it (even though, again, Tibet doesn't even want to separate). But look! what a surprise! The chinese people got angry at you for making big scene in their country! I mean aren't the people smart enough to know how bad their country is? I thought they were smart... How could they even live in such a bad country. Look at their stupid government, even one of our 40 year old man who gets brainwashed by our media can do better. (even though china is raising in power and predicted to surpass the US in 2025)

And whats with this one child policy? YOUR VIOLATING HUMAN RIGHTS!!! Your violating our right to blame you for overpopulation!!! How dare you?

Lastly, I would like to leave all of you with a poem.

云的那一边: A poem by a Silent, Silent Chinese.

Have a cookie.

so what do think this thread is going to do?

seriously, just look at raw info

if you want pro-china, there’s the internet

strangely, i don’t understand why china doesn’t have free elections…the CPC appears to have wide support and holding them will add an air of legitimacy

i also don’t understand or why the the golden shield (internet blocks) exists or why they censor media…what are they afraid of? the world will stop being so angry

I actually agree with this, although both sides and their respective medias have their own faults.

You really should turn off your computer if you’re going to get high.

What do you expect? America’s generally going to televise their own athletes and talk about their own athletes more than others. Just like how the Korean media reports on Korean athletes(I’m Korean). It’s just what naturally’s going to happen. Nothing wrong with it either since most people are interested in their own athletes.

This is America. Why wouldn’t we favor American athletes competing in the Olympics?

Part of the reason why they are so popular is because they control the media.

Oh great, another one of those West vs. China threads…

U mad?

10 char.

I’m not saying china is so great or anything… and ofcourse the US would focus on their own athletes. However, they should do it by stressing their own victories, rather than bash China…

This is the difference between western media and chinese media (or so i think). The western media tends to Bash all the other countries, so they might look a little better themselves in comparison. Chinese media exaggerates it’s own success, making it’s own citizens think it’s good, but not affecting other countries.

This is really just understandable. I’m sure the Chinese media does the exact same thing. At least our media actually reports on the events, rather than pulling strings to cover it up.

People, just have a little more patience and tolerance. It’s like not your life’s ruined because China is not a democracy. In time, things will change.

Although I do like that poem. It’s got a great and clear message, and makes a good point about the hypocrisy of the U.S.

I agree with the OP completely. : )

I agree except your last little part about the one child policy. While it should be dealt with in a much more humane way, we need to fix this overpopulation problem the world has. Two people should create two people or less. We don’t have enough resources.

I know it’s an off topic rant, but it’s a big issue I have with the world.

^Actually, most industrialized nations have relatively low birth rates. Nearly all of Europe has birth rates below the replacement rate. The countries with birth rate problems, sadly, are the same countries that face economic hardship.

^maybe low birth rates since the baby boomer generation, but not low enough for our resources to handle.

It’s called the home field advantage - the commentators would have made the same remarks if the Olympics had been held in Germany, Korea or Brazil.

Now, is there bias in the Western media? - Of course.

But nonetheless, it is more even-handed and fully informative than the PRC regulated media in China.

Do the Chinese people hear about how the lawyers who agreed to represent the parents of the schoolchildren killed in the quake due to shoddy construction of school buildings got their law licenses yanked?

Or that the govt. pressured the bereaved parents to accept the $$ money settlement in lieu of any real investigation into the tragedy ever happening?

And oh, btw, the Western media was pretty complimentary on the overall rescue/reconstruction efforts by the PRC - which is not something that can be said w/ regard to how it viewed the Bush admin’s handling of the Katrina aftermath.

You’re right, we should totally focus on China and not America.

C’mon, it’s NBC. What do you expect.
