DOOMED TO COMMUNITY COLLEGE ?!?!? Please help a rising senior chooses her safties :((

I usually am not in favor of gap years, but in your situation it may work. You moved at the worst possible time- halfway through junior year. If you are not happy with your college prospects, it may make sense to take a gap year. That way, you will have more time to study for the SAT and do a retake. I would not worry much about your extracurricular activities. If you can make them more impressive, fine, otherwise, don’t worry.

early_college is a 15 year old. It’s important for people to be informed that a 15 year old is trying to give you college advice.

“I really want to get into 4 year private university with a full scholar ship so at least I won’t have to spend my parent’s money.”

I don’t think that will be possible, and certainly not at any of the schools mentioned in this thread. Scholarships are generally awarded on a merit basis, and you would have to be at the very top of a school’s applicant pool to qualify. Among the free schools mentioned, Berea is for kids from Appalachia and Cooper tends to admit students with higher test scores.

I have done a lot of research on journalism schools since the 8th grade [ad hominem comment removed as a TOS Courtesy violation]. As you may see, people agreed with what I had to say. You also see people who are juniors giving advice, I’m a sophomore.

To OneMom,

I have heard of a gap year before and usually students use it as a time to travel, internships and volunteer works. But I have a question: Do you asked for a gap year when you are accepted to college or when you finished high school(meaning you don’t apply to college in end of this year) ?

To nysmile,

I don’t mind people who are younger than me giving advice. In fact, I’m honored that they took the time to read my thread and to type an answer. Plus, early_college certainly must have more experience than me in college search, so why not listen to him?

To dntw8up,

Though it seems hard, I will try my best to find small organization scholarships (range from 1000$ to 5000$) or at least boost my application up in a short time and explained my situation in the essay. everything is possible anyway I appreciate your answer :)

To early_college,

It’s quite disturbing to see members saying negative things to others, so please don’t :frowning: And yes, even though I’m inexperience with college, I still write advices to others too. :D

No problem, I think the only reason why this person is upset because of another thread. I wouldn’t give you advice, unless I researched it. I’m also a bad test taker, so I will be applying to those schools. LOL.

Some colleges and universities are test score optional. They don’t use your standardized tests scores when they complete the admissions process. Providence College is one I know of.
There is a alist of schools like this here: http://www.fairtest.org/university/optional

Look at post 18.

community colleges literally have instructions on how to wash your hands in the bathrooms

Archi: I re-read what you wrote. I want you to understand that this person has been nothing but negative to me. She has been going on my threads and telling people I’m a 15 years old and I feel hurt. This makes people think my feedback means nothing, because what makes a 15 year old know anything? I have done TONS of research. I prob. shouldn’t have wrote what I said, but nysmile got under my skin. I don’t feel like its her place to tell people my feedback means nothing. I hope you understand and I hoped I helped you!

To zebra18,

Thanks and thanks for the advice :)

To LogicWarrior,

Uh… I know quite well how to wash my hands… I don’t think I’ll need community college for that.

To early_college,

It must been tough for a member to disapprove you just because you are young - never judge a book by its cover!. But with your research, I bet you could get into the best college(you still have a lot of time ahead of you and to improve your Standardized Test Scores), and yes, your advice has help me (at least you have ease my worries). Thank you :D

Thanks,

I’m glad I helped.

archi92, you might also consider majoring in diplomacy! Very nice responses.

Many schools give you the option of asking for a gap year after they accept you. You can also apply to schools while on your gap year. Sometimes if people are not thrilled with their acceptances, they decide to take a gap year and apply to more schools during it.

I agree archi you should consider majoring in diplomacy. The problem with the gap year is that a lot of students never go back to college. I think some people use it as an excuse not to go to college. There are people who do use it well though. I would try to do something useful with the year and get a job or something. It would be useless to just use it for staying home all day, you can do that when you retire.

To alamemom and early_college,

My parents are actually diplomats and I have seen both pros and cons in this career. The diplomatic world is a complicated one and I have come to a conclusion that I will never follow it, though I appreciate your comments. (I’m flattered from your compliment alamemom ;))

To OneMom,

I will consider your advice, it may give me a chance to improve my application and my SAT scores. But in the same time, I doubt that it would make a good impression on the top schools. It seems as if I haven’t done my best during my high school years and “helplessly” need another year to make up. I have to say, I quite agree with early_college here, I doubt myself to make useful this gap year.

Thanks again for all your advices!!

Yeah I personally wouldn’t be a diplomat myself, lol. I think your grades aren’t that bad and you need to worry about the test scores. If you look at the list, you should fine some good schools to apply to. Also, SAT scores aren’t everything and smaller schools like more towards the individual. I wouldn’t suggest a gap year for you and for most people it isn’t a good idea.

You write very well, maybe you should consider a career as a journalist?

Thank you soo much early_college,

You have been very supportive throughout the thread and I appreciate your advices. I don’t consider myself as a good writer, it’s just that I read a lot. I wouldn’t go for journalism since I’m quite a devil-may-care person and doesn’t follow much the news. But, thanks anyways. :)

Hope you could get into a good college and have a happy life ;)

Your Welcome and I hope I go to a good school too!
