Doonesbury on college essays

No politics in this one folks:

I've really been enjoying these strips lately with Alex applying to colleges - loved the discussions she had with her mother. Wonder if she'll get into MIT?

I wonder if Gary & Jane have a high school senior...

The cynicism of Alex cracks me up, particularly today's strip where she tells Mike her Common App essay is on her ex-boyfriends.

Mike: And why would colleges want to know that?
Alex: Personal growth. They eat it up.

No, but they went through this a few years ago. They have twins about age 21 and another child a year younger.

Yeah, I was going to post about today's strip too. So on target. For some reason, I thought of CC immediately.

I guess as long as it doesn't fall into Nance's list of don'ts....

Under the section labeled Extracurricular Activities, do not list the following: Being a great boyfriend/girlfriend; 20 hours per week.

it should be quite interesting.

My theory is that they are going to hate this essay, and that's why she ends up at Walden.

Okay, just read today's strip. It's obvious that while his kids may have already gone through this, SOMEBODY close to him is in the middle of applications -- the Penn "autobiography" essay is featured.

LOL. Sounds like the kids in CC's Penn forum. She forgot to add "and I'll make a big contribution to the University".
