Do they do room inspections during the year?

yes, they do room inspections (and they're pretty strict, although they cant look under anything) but our whole building got warnings because of the signs that our ras put up at the end of the year. and we got warned because of a mirror hanging on the back of a door (we managed to get out of a fine from that one by saying that we didnt know, as the suite door had a sign saying that nothing could go on it, but the bedroom doors didnt)

Room inspection tips:

If you get caught with a propped door and receive a fine, have one member of the suite write in and claim sole responsibility. Otherwise, each member of the dorm is fined. You don't want that to happen.

taking one for the team. good stuff - thanks.

Basically, they aren't allowed to search your room, just walk in and observe.

Also, it's a good habit to inform the neighbors ASAP once there's a room search. It helps your hallmates avoid fines as well; I've actually entered empty unlocked dorms of friends and pretended to be the resident until a room search finishes. Usually cool RAs will get word of room searches and let you know the week they're coming.

Wow, those are great tips! They need more publicity.
