Did some of my dorm shopping yesterday and a few questions came up:
1. Is it necessary to buy an mini ironing board and iron? I do need the iron and board cause I know I'll end up with a bunch of wrinkly clothes, but if any of the laundry rooms just have a communal set, I'd happily use those rather than buying my own.
2. Someone told me that my dorm (Belltower) has "moving closets"...er, I was just wondering if there was any truth to that and what the heck that means.
3. Speaking of BTower...does it have carpeting in the rooms? Also, do they have there own sinks in the rooms?
4. Is it okay if I wanted to bring an extra set of some small drawers? Or are dorms just typically too crowded for anything else?

1) i don't think there is any communal ironing equipment.
2)the closets are not part of the structure. they're like a set of drawer - but closets. so you can move them around and situate the room however you'd like.
3)carpeting, yes. sinks, no. the sinks are in the communal bathroom.
4)B-tower is probably the best place to bring some extra drawers if you need them because of it's size. it's not abnormal to bring them either, many people do.

I didn't find that I needed to iron anything as long as I took clothes out of the dryer and folded them right away. I didn't bring an iron and don't think one is necessary.

You should be able to bring in something small. I had a single and didn't find it a problem, although there may be less space for your own things if you have a double.

My roommate had his own iron and ironing board last year. He liked to iron his jeans instead of putting them in the dryer. If you feel that you'll go crazy if you have wrinkles in your clothing, then by all means bring one.

i would loan an iron to my formal dates when they needed to iron a shirt :)

a moveable closet in b tower is like a wardrobe i guess... it's not physically part of the room, but its a piece of furnature. adn your dorm is big enough to bring an extra set of drawers.

Oh, and one more question I forgot,
I was told that Bell Tower dorms (along with a couple of others) already came with beds lofted off the ground at like 4 feet. Is that true?

Yeah, those are "half-lofts." You can adjust how high the bed is in them, though, so if you want your bed lower to the ground, all you need is a hammer.

About refrigerators, about how big should it be if you and your roomate are sharing one. Because some of them I see online look a little too small, but would those coutertop high ones be too big? I think they are around like 3 cubic feet of inside space...is that too big?

belltower could support an entire house-sized fridge/frezzer in all rooms. unfortunately, duke does not allow this. if i remember correctly, my fridge last year (in bassett) was approximately 4.5 sq. ft. it was a nice size and served its purpose. it had a very small freezer on top which was nice when I had a small bottle of liquor that i needed chilled (i.e. vodka or jager...). i would not suggest getting anything larger than 4.75 sq. feet. if you need more space i would recommend getting another fridge of the same size. my hallmates did that and kept one stocked with beer, the other with sunny-d....it was awesome.

Isnt there a limit on fridge size - 5 cu. ft. or something? I don't think anyone goes around measuring though. btw sorrrman, the ALE is going to be all over your ass, haha j/k

There is a limit according to the RLHS website. Your fridge is supposed to be 4.0 cubic feet or less. But in all honesty... no one cares as long as you don't try and fit in a full-sized fridge. Like Amused said, no one comes around and measures.
