Dorm assignments are online

Does anyone have anything to share about Cardenal? I'd really appreciate it! :)

Soto is a 4-class dorm, but as 4-class dorms go, it's probably the best of the lot. It'll be a different experience than an all-freshman dorm, but it's not where fun goes to die or anything.

Okada is a four class Asian themed dorm. I think it tends to be somewhat quiet in terms of four class dorms. It's part of the Wilbur complex. I have some incredibly awesome friends living there next year.

Cardenall is in East FloMo, next to the other SLE dorms, Alondra and Faison. Alondra is all frosh, and the other two are four-class. I think there are about 50-60 people in Cardenal, and about half of them are freshman. A lot of people who are living there next year were in SLE. I think there is a good deal of interaction between freshman and upperclassmen, and a pretty strong overall sense of community with SLE and all.

I was wondering: are most of the friendships/relationships that you develop freshman year with the ppl in ur dorm or with other groups (classes/clubs). Who do you usually hang out with the most.

WOOOO to the people living in Cedro and Serra! I lived in Cedro my freshman year and in Serra this past year. I'm acquainted with staff in both dorms (one of them even posts regularly on this board) and they're really great.

I would say that the majority of your friendships will come from your dorm. You spend a lot of time with your dormmates, whether you're eating, brushing your teeth, doing your homework, watching a movie in the lounge, or just hanging out in the halls. However, you're not "doomed" to only have friends in your dorm - people also make good friends through classes, clubs, or mutual acquaintances.

Some more detailed info from my experiences:

Cedro
-Decent location. Kind of far from the chem/math/bio areas, but oh well. Not bad if you have a bike. Not too far from the post office, bookstore, or Tresidder (food).
-Really nice resident fellows, but they aren't terribly involved in dorm life. (Resident fellows are faculty members, and sometimes their families, who live in the dorms. They are there to help with programming and make sure the students are happy and healthy, but they usually work with the staff more than with the students directly.)
-Reputation for being a bit loud, but not the loudest. Parties occur often, but it's easy to escape to your room to read or do homework without pressure.
-When I was there, there was a good variety of people - some loud, some not, some techie, some fuzzy.

Serra
-Great location. You can see the bookstore and post office from the dorm. Tresidder isn't far away. Pretty close to the quad, but it's still a little ways from the math/chem/bio area.
-The resident fellow is awesome. He actually eats meals with the students and chats with them because he cares about their well-being. He also isn't too intrusive - I think the balance is great.
-The upperclassmen all have singles, so there aren't that many upperclassmen (probably about 30 upperclassmen vs. 40 freshmen). My experience was that this made for a cozy house, and the upperclassmen definitely socialized with the freshmen. I hung out with freshmen and drove them places countless times. Some of them are my closest friends.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions, but my help will be limited because things do change year to year!

Freshman year, most of my friends were from my dorm. A couple of my very good friends were in another nearby dorm. I now really only have one really close friend from my freshman dorm, but I know her mostly through an activity we're in together. I rarely see anyone else from my dorm anymore, but hope that will change junior year. A bunch of people in my freshman dorm are still really close, but most of my good friends I made through other activities on campus. I guess it depends where you spend most of your time.

how is mirlo?

Yeah Cardenal!!! Anyone else there besides Rockao and me? :D

Burbank!!! :)
Do you guys have anything to say about Burbank?

I believe that Burbank just got converted to all-frosh for this coming school year; in the past, it had been 4-class. Therefore, I don't know anything about how it'll be :)

As for generalities, it's in the Stern complex, which I think is in a great location. You're really close to the bookstore and post office, and Tresidder is just another 30 sec away (walking). The quad isn't far either. The food is okay, but you have late-nite dining!

Can you tell me anything about Donner? I know it's in Stern, but is there anything you've heard about Donner in particular?

I'm in Cedro! Only other kid from my school in Trancos, so pretty convenient.

Funny cuz that was my gf's dorm this year too. I already know my way around =D

Donner will be very similar to any of the other all-freshman dorms in Wilbur or Stern in terms of food, room size, etc. The only thing that might be different is ratio of girls to guys, and I don't know the specifics of that for Donner.

Im gonna be in cedro too. I was kinda hoping to be in a 4 class dorm but oh well

Yeah C-House! (That would be Cedro :)) Your HPAC (Head Peer Academic Coordinator) is awesome - he's a good friend of mine.

crazyglue, be thankful you're in an all-freshmen dorm. while both kinds of dorms have their positive and negative qualities, having lived in both, i'd have to say personally an all-frosh dorm gives you an experience that you simply can't find in an all-class dorm.
