how big of a party dorm is Briscoe?
And...does it have air conditioning?

oh...and when do they tell us who our room mates are?

I'm a bit worried, in case you can't tell :P

They are not posted for everyone apparently. How early did you apply for housing?

S applied in late December. Got a room in Johnston dorm in Ashton, right on 10th street and next to Teter. Pretty good location.

Ewwwwwwww, Johnston.

I haven't been assigned yet apparently. I think it's only people who applied to learning communities so far.

i got Read's Curry wing. And i am in the academic community

I want to Second Read: Curry.

i got johnston at ashton. residence scholars community. how is it?
A2Wolves6 dont scare me.

I thought people there really weren't social, nothing ever happened at the dorm and I would hang out elsewhere. I would say Ashton in general is the anti-social "nerd" dorm. Residence Scholars is a bit different because you get people there who are there solely because it's so cheap.

There was one point where people brought their desktop computers into the lounge and played Counterstrike together. Don't get me wrong, I met a bunch of great people in my dorm, but there was a large contingent of people that I just had no connection with. I had to beg people to go to athletic events, and it never was someone in Johnston who was telling me of a party that was going on.

can anyone tell me a good dorm or academic community

From someone who lived in Ashton-Vos his freshman year. It was an experience. I wasted a year of my life there. Ashton has different buildings. Johnston, Vos, Hershey, Moffat, etc. Unlike Teter or Wright, the buildings are not connected so the social life is lackluster. Ashton dorm rooms are all singles. Most often you'll find your neighbors doors closed. Or your neighbor keeps to his/her-self. People are VERY antisocial and socially awkward.

Don't get me wrong, you'll meet some cool people. There were two people on my floor who were really great and I can honestly say that our friendship is for life. We've become brothers. Had it not been for these two, living in Ashton would've been a complete misery.

The pros for me were that the library and business school were a short walk away. The dorm is extremely quiet providing a great ambiance for studying, and privacy is greater because your not sharing a room.

Pizza Express, Jimmy Johns, and Village Pantry were across the street. There were nights where I'd be walking back from the library at 1 or 2 in the morning and unfortunately the dining halls close at 10. These locations provide opportunities for late night snack, or dinner.

If I could do my freshman year over again I would've preferred to live in the other dorms on central Teter or Wright. But I'm glad I did for the few but special friendships I've made.

Briscoe is THE GHETTO party dorm. Old furniture, non-air conditioned rooms, and co-ed floors with no doors separating the floors!

Briscoe is way out north in the middle of no where. Kinda sucks, especially on weekends if you need to get to the library, cause its a longer walk than what you would be happy with.

Ashton is not that bad, I lived in Ashton Hershey last year. People more or less keep to themselves, but if you keep your door open people will pop in and say hi. You can make friends no matter where you live. Ashton is all singles which is definitely a gift and a curse.

Briscoe is right next to the athletic facilities, there's no walk going to basketball or football games like you have for central campus dorms, and worse southeast dorms. The walk to class is all downhill from McNutt.

I'm not in an interest group and I found out today that I got into Teter: Rabb. Does anybody know anything about this residence hall?

I liked Teter, good balance of social activities and academic focus. Lots of people who were outside in the quad doing volleyball, tanning, smoking, listening to music, studying. Met some good friends in Teter.

I got in at forest, anybody know about it?

Forest has twin towers like Briscoe. People I know who lived there didn't like it. You have to walk far to go anywhere. Forget about walking to any athletic facilities. Boring dorm. I believe it has an academic community in it (Honors Floor or something).

Dam,that's messed up, is there anyway I can change? I'd like to stay at teter or somewhere closer to the science buildings. What didn't yo friends like about Forest, is it full of lames?
