Dorm assignments are posted

Sorry Bro, looks like you got screwed. No worries, I got screwed when I got Eigenmann instead of NW.

Eigenmann's got everything though - large dorm rooms, cool people, bookstore, game lounge. It's a LONG walk to classes though (especially math buildings like Swain West, Rawles, etc.), but you can take the C bus and the 6 bus. I don't know, not the worst dorm but definitely not the best.

I would rank the dorms as the following:
1) Collins
2) Willkie (upperclassmen only)
3) NW Neighborhood (Foster, McNutt, Briscoe)
4) Teter
5) Eigenmann
6) Wright
7) Southeast neighborhood (Read, Forest)
8) Ashton

I have a limited opinion on dorms since I've only lived in Foster and Ashton but I think Foster is the best dorm overall. I agree with some of the earlier statements given by A2Wolves6 that Ashton residents are stereotypically unsocial but I did make some excellent friends living in Ashton this year. However, as A2Wolves mentioned, some of the Ashtonians have strange social behavior. One individual on my floor complained that "Ashton wasn't social enough" but not once did I see him approach one of his floormates in search of social activity. In general, he just played video games by himself in his room and complained about how lackluster Ashton's social life was. Any logical person could see that this individual's behavior was very counterproductive to his social life.

As long as you don't get a room that's right next to the door on the ground floor (the most noisy point in any dorm) I don't see a big reason to dispute your housing assignment. I don't know where you got the impression that Forest is far from science buildings - the only dorms that compete with Forest in terms of distance to science buildings are Read (the neigbor of Forest) and Collins. Forest is a GREAT location for science majors - most often you will just take a straight path going east on 3rd street to arrive at many of your lecture halls.

Has everyone received their dorm assignments??????- when I check on the link it says "you are not assigned for the 2008-2009 academic year" does this mean they havent got to me yet or should I call-i have my confirmation number from when i submitted the dorm contract, so I know I did it- any ideas?
also iu doesnt have a roomate survey like other schools, right- all I did was fill out the form with my neighborhood request, but there was no personal info like am I messy or do i sleep late or w/e, right?

I'm living in Smith (smallest building of Collins). I hope I like it.

The five of us - My daughter does not have her dorm assignment yet and she knows several others who do not have theirs either. They are frustrated but waiting!

I got Forest east, but it says I have a $25 activity fee. I didn't sign up for an academic community or anything like that, so is this just something everyone gets?

If you pick a triple room, will it cost less than double room?

Lydia - it looks like the only place you can get a triple is Eigenmann (though I've heard of some people doing it in McNutt...). The Eigenmann triple is less expensive than the Eigenmann double, but more expensive than a double elsewhere. You can look at the RPS cost schedule at the following link to see what I'm talking about:

IU-RPS - Costs

Thanks, Wavarian. I've just realized that.

How to got into Collins without joining Collins LLC? And If I do join Collins LLC, is it possible to be assigned at Hillcrest Apt (not Collins)?

you have to apply to get into Collins LLC....but its too late now...i applied and got in...however i was not assigned in teh Collins dorms...which is a bummer because i really wanted to be in a 'liberal arts' community....DAMN RPS

I will agree that Aston is stereotypically umm quiet lol but I am living in Ashton Mason in an apartment so that shouldn't be bad and much cheaper than the dorms. But for anyone in Teter I would recommend it totally. Air conditioning is amazing when it gets hot out and if you are on a academic floor i'm going to gust say that your floor is what you make it. I lived on an honors floor last year in Teter-Boisen and we made that floor pretty damn fun.

I'll be living in McNutt: Bordner, does anyone have any information about it?! I stayed there for cheerleading camp a longgg time ago, but haven't been there since & can't really remember anything about it. Also, obviously, I've never been there with other students.

Thoughts, opinions?!

My son has been assigned to Foster - Magee. I believe this is in the "party" neighborhood. Can anyone comment on this particular dorm. Thanks.

Northwest dorms are mostly the same. They house a lot of the party crowd, many of the students are from OOS there, and lots of them go greek. The highest concentration of North Face jackets, UGG(ly) boots, and superficial people live on north campus.

Foster is the athlete dorm, it's a bit more balanced than McNutt and Briscoe. It's the closest to the B-School out of all the dorms. It's got the food court in the NW neighborhood (huge plus), so all the NW neighborhood people migrate to Foster to eat.

Thanks for the information. From what you've posted it seems that maybe Foster is the mildest of the party dorms. I know my son is going to party while at IU, but I just don't want him to be "distracted" 24/7. From what I can tell, Foster is made up of 4 Bldgs. - 1 big building (Harper) and 3 others - Magee included. He was hoping to get into the Central Neighborhood, and had the Northwest Neighborhood listed as his 2nd choice. He was amazed when he went to Orientation last week at how small the dorm rooms are. They housed them in Wright.

I also stayed in Wright during orientation - don't worry, Foster's rooms are slightly larger than Wright's. I stayed in Foster for a freshman seminar and it was comfortable even with a roommate. Foster is the best dorm in the Northwest neighborhood, in my opinion.

My son will be glad to hear the dorms are a bit larger in Foster. I appreciate the feedback.

I'm going to be heading to IU for my first semester next fall. (I'll be a junior) I know no one at the school, so I'm all about meeting new people. Would you guys suggest moving to dorms for my first year?
