Does anyone know what dorm they are in yet? I mean prefrosh.

I stopped by OCL yesterday (i'm a prefrosh here for the summer) and they said they'd have them finished tomorrow

They should be on Peoplesoft when they're out.

dorm assignments for first-years are out. go to:

williams.edu/ peoplesoft

Campus personal information

i'm in Sage D, fourth floor, so it's the best of both worlds. Glad i don't have to walk up that damn hill

Pratt 322, 323, 324 all have 6 walls (2 long, 2 medium 'n 2 short). Any idea what the dimensions are? The door opens on a long wall; do most people have their beds along one of the long walls or perhaps along the medium one that seems to be where windows would be? Is there room for a 5 cubic foot fridge? Lastly, any idea where washers and dryers reside? Thanks

Mission rooms are oddly shaped. But the beds and everything fit fine, and even big fridges can fit (especially if you raise your bed up all the way).

Yup, Mission rooms are awesome!
My D was on the 4th floor and loved it, though she's admittedly a workout fanatic. The rooms are great...all singles!
It may look weird from outside, but the beauty of the building grows on you. It looks like a huge wing....but it's a great dorm environment since they remodeled it with the common rooms a few years ago.
The JA's are awesome, and yes, raise the beds all the way up.

Short of levitation... is it cinderblock, something else to raise the beds?
Do most people keep and use the wooden desk chairs or are there a lot of mail order/ office type desk chairs that people bring on their own?

is the dorm assignment under addresses?

i have _ _ _ _ Paresky but I'm assuming that's a mailbox right?

No. It's just #### Paresky, for the mailing address.

ATM: The bedposts have slots so that you can lift the beds/mattresses off the floor for additional storage underneath -- ranging from a few inches to a few feet. It really helps in the small singles.

sambino4: Yes, your Paresky address is your mailbox in the mailroom at the new student center; you'll be receiving your mail there until you leave Williams. And for delivery, all you need is your name, XXXX Paresky, Williamstown, MA 01267. For packages, though, add "39 Chapin Hall Dr" after your Paresky box # so that FedEx, UPS, etc. will know to take the parcel to the trailer set up for larger deliveries.

Your dorm assignment is actually the name of the residential building (followed by the floor number, I believe) and room number.

Cool, thanks onemoremom. I knew how hectic and confusing being a Freshman was last year, but being a transfer may surpass it lol. There's a lot of stuff I have to get straight before the year starts.

all rooms in mission are singles? even the big ones at the end of the hallway?

There are actually some doubles in Mission -- usually in the big rooms at the end of the hallways.

Yeah, unless your roomate happens to just not show up at college, and you get the thing all to yourself...

Some people in the frosh quad had doubles that were smaller than Mission singles. I can give you some room numbers if you want. :p

It's all good. Sage and Williams form a quad and are near Paresky and the humanities library and nearer the labs and classrooms than Mission. There's a sense of community within not only the entries but also around the quad, which will be the scene of memorable outdoor fun. Mission has its own lawns, the big windows (and some amazing views) and its own dining facilities, plus most of the rooms are singles (except the end rooms, which used to be the en suite living rooms before the renovations, and are now big doubles). Again, there is community not only within the entries but also within the building.

This is all amazing housing for first year college students. It is extraordinarily unusual to have a situation where most people who want a single will get it and most people who want a double will get it.

Enjoy it, new Ephs!

Actually, from my personal experience i have found there is very little community within the building in Mission. Mission has horizontal entries and the people in the entries bond really well with themselves..but not too much bonding with other entries.

In the frosh quad, however, the entries dont just stick to each other..and there is a lot more sense of community around the quad.

I lived in a single in mission my freshmen year..but i would have preferred to live in the frosh quad.

what do you guys know/hear about brooks?

Brooks is kind of boxy... but, its an upperclassmen house...

Brooks is probably the least desirable of the row houses (the former frat houses along rt. 2). This is probably because it's the ugliest, but also because it's mostly doubles. Nice common spaces, including a big basement kitchen/lounge/billiards room where there are sometimes all-campus parties.
