maybe a current FU student or someone in the know can advise on dorms. D does NOT want QueensCourt and does NOT want to be tripled. What are her best options? Alumni North and South looked pretty conventional. What is living in Tierney like? Are the learning communities worthwhile? Are the dorms nicer than others? Advise please....

Also what options are there for upperclassmen? Any suites available?

i'm not really sure what you mean by suite so based on what i think it is (housing with 2 or more rooms with a common room as well). only suites on campus will be in Walsh where it's apartment style housing based on that.

hughes are quads. queens and tierney are both residential colleges. they offer mainly doubles and triples that i know of.
alumni courth south and north are usually doubles but can be triples.

upper classmen dorms:
finlay are triples, few doubles and singles.
ohare are double, few triples and singles.
martrys are mainly doubles, few singles, avoid at all costs.

that's about it i think.

south and norton would be her best bets. not really sure which building is better to be honest. i skipped freshman housing since i commuted the first semester and when i did dorm they put me in finlay the second semester. ohare is great. tho it seems fate as caught up to me and i will be in a freshman dorm next year.

the good thing about tierney i think is that it's close to the three biggest class buildings on campus so she'll probably have classes in one of those buildings most of the time. i'm not sure there's much upside otherwise.

are there any pictures online of the inside of these buildngs

My boyfriend lived in Tierney and loved it. It provides a lot of opportunity to see Broadway shows for $20 and stuff like that. It's a very community-oriented dorm. They are doubles for the most part with a few triples. The rooms are bigger than the ones I had my freshman year at SJU and since they have the beds on risers it allows extra room. The showers are nice and they actually have tubs in the back! lol Granted, I haven't seen any other freshman dorms, but I thought Tierney made for a great freshman experience.

Thanks for the information.

Are there any dorms that have the "party" reputation ?
One more question: do the dorms tend to clear out on weekends?

Um from what I noticed, security is semi-tight. I had to carry a guest pass with me all the time that my boyfriend had to get a day or so in advance. Regardless, it's college so every dorm can be a party dorm if you want it to be. The thing is there is plenty to do off campus cause Little Italy, Fordham Rd, Bronx Zoo, Botanical Gardens, etc...are all right there. So I don't really see any reason to stay in the dorm at times! And I really don't think the dorms clear out on the weekends. Every time I visited, it seemed like everyone was there even though some lived very close by. It was the same with my college as well. The first few weekends it'll be a battle between going out and feeling homesick. But the further into the semester she gets, chances are the more she'll stay.

hughes i guess would fit the bill for being the 'party' dorm. here's what most students say about hughes, "it's good because there's always something going on. it's bad because there's always something going on." there are a lot of crazy stories of things that happen at hughes.

when do we get to choose

I talked to the people in housing because it says on the website "mail back the postcard on the back of the housing brochure we mailed you in April" After a major panic attack - what brochure in April? I called. No, they haven't mailed it yet, and they don't plan to mail it for several more weeks, according to the person who answered the phone at ResLife.

aw i'm so sorry! that sucks especially if you did send it on time :[
well maybe if you tell them you would be willing to commute and get an apartment off campus or something they would be more likely to give you a spot? i don't know if that's something you'd want but just a suggestion! and if not, then it just wasn't meant to be!

/\ who are you responding to?

^^She was obviously responding to "This Sucks...Really Badly " thread. I'm sure it was a simple mistake of clicking on the wrong thread.

ok
so does anyone know when we get the room selection form

i think we get housing forms mid-June

ok
anyone know what they are going to pick

as a frosh, how easy is it to get queens?
