DD has been accepted into school of music and visited the music interest dorm during her visit. She also received Capstone and that has dorm info, too. Is there anyone who knows the pros and cons of the 2 dorm areas? She has to decide which to try for in the housing application.

If your D was invited to Capstone ,in my estimation, that should be her choice,by far.She should live with the other Capstone Scholars to take advantage of the offerings and community feel. And I think Capstone is a nicer dorm than McBryde..bigger rooms, "suite"bathrooms rather than hall bathrooms.

Capstone has very large suite style rooms...two rooms share a bath. Very well located for many first year classes and one of the best dining facilities on campus according to my D who is a freshman living in Capstone.

She has been very pleased with her living experience there for what it's worth.

Thanks. I had 2 concerns with Capstone, how far from the music building it is since she would have a lot of late rehearsals, and since she is voice major and not tied to practice rooms, would practice in the scholars dorm be an issue?

My son is a computer engineering major. He is choosing Capstone over the Engineering interest dorm (Bates). Even though Bates is close to the Engineering buildling, he preferred the suite-style setup of Capstone. Concerning your daughter's late rehearsals: I think there is a shuttle stop right in front of Capstone, but I don't know whether it is an evening shuttle or day shuttle. I believe there is a shuttle map on the USC website where you could check that.

there's a late night escort service if that is a concern to you.
as far as distance, some kids (S included) use bikes. He's a Sport Management major, their building is the Coliseum across the street from the Music Building and he lives in Maxcy.Maxcy to Coliseum on bike is >5 minutes.
There is a USC shuttle but Im not sure about its evening hours.
Why not check with the Music Dept over late night/rehersal space concerns.I'm sure its a question thats come up before.
Have you been to the campus and seen the distances?Have you seen the two dorms in question in person?

Thanks. We did visit the music dorm when we were there but we were unable to attend the special events and tours March 24th after the capstone acceptance. Mostly a Mom's concern over the late nights I think. But we will continue to check it out with music. Capstone does sound like the nicer area. .
