Dorm Choices

Everybody has a different opinion on what dorms to choose, but can anyone please give me guidance by telling me which are the good ones, bad ones, etc - AND PLEASE STATE THE SPECIFIC REASONS!!!).

It totally depends on what you're looking for. If you want more Privacy, Beaty, Springs, and Lakeside would be best.

Lakeside is apartment styled [4 bedroosm, 2 bathrooms, a living room, kitchen]. It is definately nice. However, the bedrooms are small and narrow and Lakeside is far from the main part of campus. You're going to have to take a bus to get to where your classes are at. [I stayed here for Summer B '06].

Beaty is 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, and a bathroom for 4 people. It's decent but I loved it. [I stayed at Beaty during Fall/Spring '06-'07]. A lady comes in once a week to clean the bathroom. Also, you would need to bunk your beds in the bedroom so you have more space to move around. What I didn't like was one desk is in the bedroom, and the other is outside in the living area. Also, the elevators tend to break down sometimes and it sucks to go up 9 flights of stairs. But, I really enjoyed it and it's fairly close to everything on campus.

Springs is basically two rooms sharing a bathroom in between. It is one of the nicer dorms and the closet space is huge. The floor has a kitchen area. My friend stayed here in the Summer and liked it alot. A lot of the athletes stay in Springs so you might be on the same floor with other football players, basketball players, etc. The dorm is on the west side of campus so you would have to take a bus to class.

Murphree, Sledd and Fletcher have one big room, which is divided into two by a wall. One roommate gets the back part, and the other gets the front. I think you share a bathroom with like 8 people in total. The location of Murphree is really good. Right next to the stadium, University Avenue is directly in front of these dorms, and classes are only a walk away.

The more social dorms are the typical double room dorms, with the communal bathroom you share with everyone on the floor. Jennings, Broward, Yulee, Reid, Mallory and Rawlings are all on the east side of campus which is essentially the main part of campus and were the majority of your classes will be. They are very social dorms and you have little privacy usually.

North, East, Weaver, Riker, Tolbert, Graham, Trusler, and Simpson are all on the west side of campus. Closer to The O'Connel Center, the Stadium and the Reitz Union. They are exactly like all the other double room dorms with communal bathrooms just on the other side of campus.

Hume is for Honors Students and Keys is for 2nd year students and up.

If you want me to be more specific, just let me know.
