Dorm closing questions

My son will be attending UM starting in August. We have been looking into flights for Thanksgiving and also at the end of the semester. Do the dorms close over Thanksgiving? If so, when can the students return? The last day for final exams is 12/12. How quickly do students want to leave to come home? Coming back in January, the dorms open well before classes begin. When do most students return?

Thanks for your help!

The academic calendar may help re: when dorms close - as for when your son will want to come home and return, that’s up to the two of you.

Thanks. Looked at that already and it makes no mention of the Thansgiving break housing policy.

Dorms remain open over Thanksgiving.

Dorms are not closed over Thanksgiving, I believe I’ve read that on here before. The campus is just dead since the majority go home.

Thanks! Had a feeling they may not since there are so many international students at the school.

This past Thanksgiving a “feast” was served in the freshman dorms for those that stayed and then a bus provided to go to the mall for Black Friday shopping. Many kids who live far away choose to stay in town and relax, sleep, study, shop and explore.

That’s so nice! Thanks for the replies. I was wondering if there would be an issue if my son took an early flight back, and it seems there will not be one. Have learned so much from all of you on CC!
