I, too, stumbled onto this post and am glad for 2 reasons: one: guy parents are also concerned about the dorms (my daughter is so “chill” I had to ask her sister what dorm she is in…I presume on 8/22 she will ask to hit Target before we load up the car!)…second: 1 of my 4 brothers to attend ND lived in St Ed’s and he still speaks fondly of his time there: it is truly a tight knit, great dorm (great location)!

As a mom to a son heading to St. Ed’s in a month I am curious how it all worked out. My son will be in a quad and I’m hoping someone can enlighten me as to size of rooms. Is there really space for 4 lofted beds, 4 desks, futons and Home Depot dressers brought in? Looking forward to hearing from any of you.

I am a current resident of St. Ed’s, and am happy to tell you that the dorm will be looking better than ever this fall, due to the recent renovations. They’ve added a few extra lounges, redone the aesthetics in the rooms and hallways, and completely remodeled the bathrooms. It’s going to look great.

As for room space, I wouldn’t worry at all about fitting everything in - it should all be fine. The new renovations will also bring with them custom-made university lofts for all the beds, so that the space of the room can be assessed right from the get-go without the hassle of having to build a loft yourself. Each room will now also come with a small dresser with two drawers for each resident. The closets are nooks set into the wall so as to save space, so there’s definitely room to put an extra set of drawers in there if your son needs them.

By my rough estimate, the bigger quads are around 25 feet by 15 feet in floorspace, though the smaller ones might be about 5 feet less wide. Having been in countless Steds quads over the years, there’s more than enough room for all 4 desks, sometimes two futons, and any other drawers or shelves that you like.

Let me know if you have any other questions - Steds is a fantastic dorm that your son is lucky to be a part of.

Hi all! I am the same “Irishcali” from a year ago, returning to post about my son’s first year as a “Stedsman”. (please know that he still would think I was crazy to be posting on here!!!) He had a great year! He LOVED St. Ed’s as a hall and is looking forward to getting back. They are getting the new University installed lofts which should be interesting! Might take away from the creativity, but overall I’m sure will be a LITTLE more safe! ;)

Any new St. Ed’s guys, please know that the move in was fantastic last year. We were moved in fully in under an hour! The move in staff completely empties your car and brings everything up to your room! There is PLENTY of room as well! My son was in one of the smaller quads last year and he had loads of room to have a full size couch and TV plus! The “nooks” for closets worked out fine. He had plenty of room for all he needed. Don’t worry! There is more than enough room in this dorm! If anyone has any questions for a parent/mom like me, let me know. I also had a daughter graduate in 2011, that lived in Welsh Family Hall, so I can talk about that too!

Enjoy the time~ND continues to be a very special place! Go Irish!

Hello everyone. Just thought I would chime in as my son is a senior this year and has lived in St. Ed’s all 4 years. He has really enjoyed being in St. Ed’s. His only regret is that the university loft system did not start earlier!!! It will be so nice to just move him in this year without having to go through the hassle of building the loft. That was a pain every year. And the new functioning elevator is a bonus!! There was plenty of storage space above the closet area. We even stored his university issued desk chair up there as he preferred a comfy office chair since he spends so much time in it writing papers. He also had a futon and several bookshelves since there were none in the room. Hopefully there will be new desks with shelves this year.

We will be moving two kids in this year as our daughter will be a freshman and is in Pangborn.
